Look are they breaking any new ground or re-inventing the wheel? Not really
But did I at least like every song on this record? You bet so I have to give them props for consistency.
It's definitely well made but a bit too much of a departure (due to circumstances out of their control) from the sound that got me into them towards a sound that just doesn't connect with me the same way. Good for them though that they have been able to build themselves back up again and still resonate with a lot of people. Maybe it will grow on me.
Pulling a lot from Springsteen obviously and working in a similar place of some recent Zach Bryan stuff, but it still all sounds very good. Songwriting is top-notch. My biggest complaint is I think the sound is a little too consistent on this project. On their own I wouldn't say there is a single bad song but I just don't think there is enough sonic variety for a front to back listen. I would have like a couple more detours in here, just for the sake of keeping everything fresh. The ... read more
Really enjoyable easy listening from Kendrick. Doesn't blow my socks off but had me grooving along. Jack production is a weird crossover but not complaining
Really strong first half. Loses a bit of steam for me in the back half but its a quick and breezy album so any weaknesses don't linger for long
Definitely a lot of good tracks here but can't help but feel a little letdown that its a bit more of the same when I was expecting something very new
Holy Holy! Admittedly I have been a bit scared off by Greep and Black Midi's sound in the past. Not in the sense that I could never see the appeal, but more by the fact that I knew I needed to be in a very specific mindset and very specific mood in order to appreciate it. If I wasn't I would probably run away forever. Luckily I was in that mood today and man is this an incredible album. A tale of toxic male facades over the most insane Mario Kart instrumentals. I am a big fan of the ... read more
Pretty but lacks something to really set it over the top. Still a pleasant listening experience the whole way through
Different vibe than the original and can be a bit hit or miss but I appreciate the songs being more of a reimagining than straightforward remixes or features. The I might say something stupid hate is wild, one of the better remixes imo
A few really great songs but a little too much of the same
I always find Heather's songwriting to be a bit lackluster but sonically Pale Waves always bring beautiful soundscapes
I respect the vision, I respect the commitment. It's just not for me but no hate and impressed by the unique lane it fits into, I think I just personally draw the line at wet fart noises in songs
While I wasn't crazy about this the hate for the interludes is weird. It's an album of 10 songs made in 10 days and the interludes essentially set up each day. I thought it was a nice touch. On the music side, there are a few good tracks, adore you, ten, places to be and glow (to a degree) but I just think this album is a bit too mellow for my taste. I could see the appeal but personally, I am more drawn to the banger side of Fred. Also backseat was disappointing, I was interested to ... read more
The bangers are there and its a relatively breezy record but it feels like its constantly treading a fine line between the gimmick working or not. When it does it's great but when it doesn't it's just forgettable and boring. The LCD Soundsystem comparisons are fair and pretty obvious. In a similarly fine line, I think there are times where it's done as a nice homage while putting in enough individual character but other times I think it's maybe a bit too on the nose ... read more
