Sigur Rós - Takk...
87

75>87 idk what I was thinking all these years, this is one of their best

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!
84

Like listening to Sigur Ros again for the first time.

Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
82

The nostalgia is carrying a lot of weight here but there are just too many hits to ignore

Flume - Hi This Is Flume
76

Lots of great beats and great features. The SOPHIE stuff is probably the highlight for me. I love how the songs all flow into each other as well. My main gripe is just the pacing of the album, the back half is a bit less feature-heavy and just instrumentals. While there are still some killer tracks here I feel like having them one after the other can make them blend together a bit too much and just makes that part of the album a bit less engaging and gives some of the songs less room to really ... read more

Sabrina Carpenter - Short n' Sweet
69

I actually didn't mind this at all. Not a ton of standout stuff but really easy to listen to. A few songs sound like Ari or Olivia clones. Still, it's pretty inoffensive outside of a few cringe bars and one fowl one (comradery) that I had to do a double take on. I also don't get the Jack Antonoff hate he only produced 4 songs on here one of them being the best one.

Fontaines D.C. - Romance
70

This was a bit disappointing considering how amazing many of the singles were, especially Favourite. I just didn't find there was much else on here that really came close outside of maybe Sundowner, a lot of it felt a bit boring or just undercooked. The Y2K vibes are cool but I don't know if they are enough to carry this for me.

Maybe it'll grow on me with a few more listens but I might just stick to the singles.

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
91

Such a confident stylistic album. Love the concept, love the blend of genres from synth-pop to prog to straight-up pop and even some disco. I knew they would deliver. If I have any reservations I think sometimes the balance between the instrumentals and the vocals could be cleaner but otherwise, it is a pristine sounding album.

Logic - Ultra 85
73

Good messages, good flows. The basic skits take me out of it a bit or at least I wish they were their own tracks only, that way I can listen to songs without having to skip the skit sections. The production is quite nice too. It's definitely too long in my opinion and gets a bit repetitive by the end but overall a very easy album to listen to with some good inspirational nuggets here and there.

Fontaines D.C. - Skinty Fia
78

The moody stuff on here is spellbinding

DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ - Hex
65

As a big DJ Sabrina fan I found this one to bit a bit underwhelming. It starts off really cool and unlike anything they have done before. I had to keep reminding myself I was listening to Dj Sabrina. I just found that the middle of the album starts to all blend together and enters pretty standard if even subpar Dj Sabrina staples. I think it picks up again at the end but too little too late. Like all of their stuff its still great for the background, I just didn't find that nearly as many ... read more

Donna Summer - I Remember Yesterday
67

Worth it just for I Feel Love

billy woods & Kenny Segal - Maps
75

The production here is killer and the lyrics poetic but I just find Billy's flow and just the whole mellowness of the record to get a bit boring by the end. The steady stream and high quality of features helps a bit to keep it fresh though. I just don't know if it's a project I would return to in its entirety frequently.

Steely Dan - Aja
70

It's quite pleasant on the ears sonically. Not sure if any of the songs really grab me lyrically or melodically.

beabadoobee - This Is How Tomorrow Moves
77

Beabadoobee is one of those artists I sometimes list among my favourites. She doesn't really have any album that blows me away (Outside of the Space Cadet EP) but her best songs can reach some really high highs and stick with me for a long time.

That seems to be the case again here. The album is solid and sure of itself, but I still find I gravitate more to the songs with more complex productions or just more rock-based elements vs the plucky, cute, straight-out of a Wes Anderson movie ... read more

Chrystabell - Cellophane Memories
49

I love David Lynch, he is probably my favourite director. What he excels at is creating a distinct, slightly off-kilter ambiance in all his movies that gives such a mesmerizing sense of being in a dream-like reality. I think this translates to his music. It feels equally off-kilter and dream-like in such a distinct Lynchian way (at some points this project reminds me a bit of Sigur Ros as well). The problem here is it works on a song level but fails miserably on an album level.

Kamasi Washington - Fearless Movement
82

Beautiful album throughout, masterful skills on display. It just runs a bit too long for my taste which becomes clear in the back half.

Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.
59

The production is very cool but his voice ruins everything

Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To
60

Yeah this is just not my thing. From a purely instrumental standpoint, I don't mind it. I actually like the drums and some of the riffs but the screaming style of vocals that comes in this genre ruins any sense of enjoyment I had. It's probably good for what it is though

JPEGMAFIA - I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU
81

The beats are fun as always but most of the songs on this album are too short. The bones are good it just ends up feeling half baked, when the production is this good I just wish it got more time to breath than coming and going in a flash. It's still a good album but could have been even better

70 > 80 it grew on me it bumps in the background
