You know your about to get freaky in the PNW when this comes on
Sufjan is an artist I respect greatly and can acknowledge his quality probably more than I actually enjoy his music. The production is undeniably luscious, I just think his particular style of songwriting, specifically melodically just doesn't scratch that specific itch in my head. All that being said, he still manages to put one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard on each of his albums that almost make me love the whole thing regardless (shit talk)
Probably their most balanced album between their beginnings and currents. Saved by a Waif saved me
A cute easy listen. Not grabbed by the low-fi vocals or melodies but the instrumentation is fun throughout and lots of pleasant little jams. My own tastes wish it was a little punchier.
From the sentiment on this album, it felt like Porter was almost going for a completely different sound in order to face some backlash and shake off his constant need to be liked...
His biggest mistake then was continuing to be so sincere.
Now that isn't to say this didn't take much adjustment. Despite all the lead-up singles (most found in the first half of the album) I still felt like this album caught me off guard, especially with the entirely new, mellow back half. On the ... read more
Childish Gambino used to be one of my favourite artists, Donald Glover is still one of my favourite comedians. Still I have been finding the Gambino music more and more boring as time has gone on, which is weird to say given how many sounds he experiments with here. For an album so varied it just kind of sucks that I found it so meh. It feels like master of none type project.
That isn't to say its all bad, there are still some engaging tracks here ( Opener, Yoshinoya, In the Night, No ... read more
I have a hard time finding a lot of albums that feel like true complete projects. There are often highlights but still enough filler to not fully connect the dots in my head. In those cases I usually just spring for the two or three highlight songs that stand out to me and avoid listening to the album altogether. This Sufjan album is the complete opposite of that.
On one hand, it satisfies my need for a cohesive project. Everything flows together so well here from the horn-filled folk to the ... read more
An album that I will tell people is good but I have no interest in listening to on my own time
This album kept getting recommended to me even though I found most of his songs boring. I finally cave and came to realize that I was correct that most songs were boring (to me)
When I was first geced when I saw them open for Brockhampton I did not get the appeal at all. I told people I didn't get the appeal at all and made fun of them for years. The this came out and I had to start explaining to people that they were actually really good. I'm sorry Gecs.
In all serious I am enjoying the way that hyperpop is starting to blend into other genre's, its not gone just evolving and showing how talented these musicians really are
