Songs in the Key of Life gets all the flowers, and it's fantastic too, but for me, Innervisions is peak Stevie. This album is rawer, funkier, harder, tighter, and angrier. I prefer the sonic palette and the energy here. Songs is a glorious victory lap, but here is where Stevie fights the battle, and wins.
