I can not explain how excited I am for new Snail Mail. I am going to feel like a teenage girl again on March 27th.
As much as sites like RYM or AOTY have exposed me to lots of good music over the years, I am firmly of the belief that rating and reviewing music is kinda the antithesis of what I really think is so incredible about music. See to me listening to music isn’t really an intellectual thing. You can have tons of information and reasoning to explain why something is good, why you should like something, but it’s all really down to whether you enjoy what you’re hearing. It’s ... read more
This song ends with Ozzy saying
"Asphyxiation
Masturbation
Degradation rules
Degradation rules
Masturbating fools
Watching RedTube rules"
And it won a Grammy
It’s a great feeling when you find a band that you feel like you should have been listening to for years. This is one of the bands that spawned out of the legendary Maryland emocore outfit Moss Icon. The music is reminiscent of that group but oh so much heavier. The drums are bombastic and the guitar playing crushes you with angular riffs and feedback. This is post hardcore but in a far more of a Drive Like Jehu way than a Fugazi way.
I want to note that the 2024 compilation from Numero ... read more
So fucking smooth. Always loved their early singles but this is the ultimate form of their sophisti-pop sound. It also spawned a remix that would become their only commercial success. It’s electric sound became the blueprint of the rest of their career, where they went on to make 3 really incredible and unique house inspired albums. They never returned to this album's sound which is kind of shame. But at least we have amplified heart as a shining example of what this genre can be. If ... read more
A true underrated prog classic. Me and brother went crazy for this as nerd-ass children. We still go crazy for it as nerd-ass adults. For a 30+ prog epic it’s really catchy
Really spoke to me in middle school. It’s kind of a Roger solo album but that’s why I like it. I think if he had grown up somewhere else in a different generation he could have made a killer emo album.
You ask about people! I tell you we're all sluts on the inside
My first new release of the year! It's a banger too. This album pretty much sounds like falling down a staircase. It's just about as frantic and painful. The drums are relentless and the guitar actually sounds broken. In a good way. It's the type of screamo that if somebody nearby overheard me listening to it they might actually think it's somebody getting tortured. The loud bits of this album are great. The only part that's lacking is the more atmospheric bits. While ... read more
"Oh, I never thought I could love like this
They think I'm a queer and a communist
But I'll go along to get along
Darlin' it feels so right
'Cause why have a god if no one is saved
I think love is a burden if it ain't brave
I live and die forever there
Right there in that divine
Oh, it's hard to say what I have learned from all these hills and hymns
But we're dyin' and we're singin', I love you and we've sinned
And when marauders come ... read more
There's some quality about this song that I must say has some LGBTQ undertones to it
Listened to it randomly because they were in the recommended artists for TGABOW. Simply incredible. Like Im actually floored by this. Gagged. I could easily raise the score after some relistens. Push is simply primal
This is a collaboration that I knew was going to be good. Shabaka is sampling himself over this beat with wild auxiliary percussion. Billy Woods is easily in the GOAT conversation for this type of Rap. Every time he delivers really well thought out and quality verse. One small issue though is that he says “it’s been 15 years since the decision” and actually Lebron James: The Decision 2010 was only released a bit over 14 years ago. Just goes to show that even legends make ... read more
Speak no evil? Nobody even speaks at all. (If they did I may not have heard it. I was listening to this at work)
I liked a couple of these songs in 8th grade and forgot about this band until I got older. I revisited them when I was getting into emo music and realized they still slapped. More recent discovery, this whole album slaps.
