Had to interrupt my day for this, to post here and its worth it. I've only heard clean spacey ambient production to this level from electronic artists like Colin Stetson, Max Cooper, and Oneohtrix Point Never, LORN, Amon Tobin. Except this has a totally self owned eastern influenced signature. I instantly decided on 100 after the opening track, was left in awe. The sound design is so intricate, alien, synthetic yet organic. And it tells a story I'm not sure how I can begin to peek ... read more
So exquisite and sublime, the melody, production and vocals, everything. Also she ate up the cover art. It goes perfectly with the atmosphere.
There's something about it that feels both primitive yet contemplative, and connected to the stars and the sea, and the weary passage of time. There's a weathered atmosphere to it. And there's something in it for everyone, eclectic insomnia driven club beats, to pure serene ambience, both with a lull of hypnosis. There's a sense of being made to feel too connected to your body and eventually it's tiredness, and because of that eerie feeling that the next logical step is ... read more
82. Very respectable. So enjoyable, flows so well. The collab is an excellent pairing. Inseparable acoustics against glistening synths, creating unique swirls of sound, emotional depth and heavenly ambience.
Enjoyed songs: Ask the rain, Meridian, 222, A broken screen, Ask the waves.
Disappointed. I love this man. He's produced for some of my favorite artists big and small like Caroline Polachek to yeule, making unique pop banger magic or eargasmic, serene, ambient production with unpredictable flow. So many of the features here are great artists but the songs are so... basic, even with previous artists like Caroline. I love the aesthetic, just not how it was put together, felt 1 dimensional and unsurprising.
Maybe it's just not for me idk, maybe it's just ... read more
I was so ready to love this album. But I'm not happiest with it. I loved the ambition in the song House, I won't listen to it all the time with headphones especially lol tryna save my worn ears but just as a study of mean but garrishly gorgeous production it's great time spent. Hell I even enjoyed the interlude Open Up legit more than any of the other songs. Songs with potential or that I like and will relisten to for moments of melodic potential and carthasis include Chains of ... read more
Clarke has a great musical ear for melody, ambience and techno experimentalism. He combines tongue in cheek playfulness, catchiness, easy listening and slower emotional depth so beautifully. Will be listening to my faves over and over to make a ranking. I enjoyed the majority of the album.
Faves so far: In patient's day out, Micro Lyf, Negation Loop, 5 Millionth Cave Painting, Who Booed The Goose, Globecore Flats, Janus Model, Gift and wound.
I love the celestial, ethereal influences that Anna is known for present here. Fave songs: The Whole Woman, Iconoclasts, Facing Atlas, Unconditional Love. I think I need to relisten to the album for the songs that didn't immediately captivate me. Maybe they will surprise me :).
Damn. Not an easy listening album like Eusexua which featured songs of that sort. This has more exotic, relentless production, deconstructed club vibes. It feels like we're getting to hear FKA's alien mind state stumbling home drunk in an abstract "under the influence" haze after realizing what she's done, and sobering off. It's slightly chaotic, every so slightly freely disorganized, disheveled yet elegant with an overall anatomy and structure. It embraces being a ... read more
The only part of the song I felt was a bit lacking were the lyrics, but there are interesting themes at play, but sort of pulled from old great songs of hers. I can't see a clear sign of maturity/further exploration or difference in the ideas. I can't figure Grimes out here except in a few interesting guesses of irony in the song layered on top of honesty (present in the song cover as well). I'd also love to hear a breakdown to make me appreciate them even more. Sometimes ... read more
Songs in general are pretty/ethereal and heartfelt, some standing out more than others, but I wouldn't say there are any "bangers" like in their previous works. I love the direction but it just needed a push from the production side. Might give another listen to see if some tracks grow on me.
Fave tracks: the long night, relict, many lives, place of my own, red the sunrise, mistral.
I love the experimental direction of the opening, the first intro chorus and pre-chorus with the electronic texturing and distortion on the voice and production. I was strapping myself in to be pleasantly surprised. Then they lose that and the rest of the song production sounds lackluster and typical after that. More could have been done to make it sound alive and unexpected. Sounds a bit bland otherwise, like it was played too safe. Could've been a real banger.
Caroline x Danny L is production god meets vocalist goddess. This sounds like the darker/grittier sister track to Insomnia and Parachute, my faves 🥹ðŸ˜. It's as elusive/hypnotic/melodic sounding, but with an almost apocalyptic lean instead.
The climax at 2 minutes in is so eclectic yet gorgeously textured after a great buildup. Stunning electronic production. This song will never get old.
Sugarcane Switch is mesmerizing and everything after that is underwhelming but I don't know why it had to be like that. A lot of these tracks could have been given a push since they sound very close to being good/excellent, both in production and vocals, some more than others. Favorite tracks: Sugarcane switch by far, Pure Smile Snake Venom (2nd), Mona Lisa Moan (3rd). I want Eartheater to go all out next time. I like Eartheater's folk-ethereal style in this album though, wish it was ... read more
