An immersive, innovative and affecting adventure, ‘purity ring’ is as emotionally gripping as any collection of music you’ll hear this year. A glorious triumph of soulful electronica, it’ll make your world feel like a richer place, full of hope, wonder and connection.
A fully formed, imaginary universe where vulnerability and hope collide.
There might not be a track on the new record as good as “Fineshrine”, the breakout single from their 2012 debut, but it’s quite easily their most compelling work as a group since said debut.
The Canadian duo’s latest acts as an imagined soundtrack to an RPG video game. Their lush electronic sound and exploratory tone effectively conjure the escapist virtual reality of their inspirations, although the result is more enticing in concept than execution.
Purity Ring sounds both inspired and in the right place based on the 13 songs that they have neatly wrapped into a concept of a strange fantasy society.
the magic of the electronic minimalism of Purity Ring can be elusive if you have never seen their live performances. the concise mastery of their unique style has grown by leaps and bounds over the years, and that is saying a lot considering the strength of their debut. the gains are all subtle and nuanced and difficult to track on a casual listen. like sharpening the edge of an already sharp knife, it cuts so smoothly and quickly that you don't even realize you are bleeding.
A consistent dreamy soundscape filled with indietronica and dream pop tracks in the form of an immersive and vulnerable videogame-like soundtrack. Some ethereal gems here, but unfortunately doesn't quite beat the highs of their previous work. Longer review on my YouTube.
I guess they dropping every 5 years now lol.

If you haven't heard that album yet, what are you doing with your life?
I won't lie, this album as a whole is better than that one.
Both albums are incredibly consistent, but this one just edges it a bit.
I like how they don't deviate too far from their sound either, that's a skill in itself.
Good Album.
i saw Purity Ring in Portland about a week and a half ago. When i was looking into the show i saw the blurb describing the band, which said that on their latest project, Purity Ring wanted to transport listeners into a fantasy world akin to Final Fantasy or Tier Automata. Through their visuals at the show and the songs they played, they certainly succeeded in that, and now sitting down to listen to their self titled album in full, I think that the best way to describe it is just that - ... read more
not a bad album, i liked the unique production, just didn't care at all for the vocals but they definitely succeeded at what they were trying to do on this album, has a strong distinct sound.
