i probably enjoyed this way more than i should've, but so many of these tracks gave me goosebumps. with every song, try to imagine a specific scene from the movie, or put yourself in catherine's shoes to feel her emotion. when i did all that, the impact was much stronger. the album was cohesive, felt very ethereal, and the gothic vibe of the movie/books definitely came through via some production choices :)
top 3: dying for you, always everywhere, chains of love
all i can say is that IM EXCITED TO HEAR MORE (but i may just be biased to hayley williams)
first album review of 2026! first exposure to xiu xiu and i'm so impressed. xiu xiu transformed the original songs in ways that i think are so very different. they gave a different take on the story each song was trying to share, which made me experience these songs in ways that i didn't think i could. this is why i enjoyed the album so much :)
3 faves: Psycho Killer, I Put a Spell on You, Lick or Sum
if an album has smooth transitions between tracks, i'm SOLD🤝 anw, the album was great, had fun beats; loved the features, their lines, and how they genuinely added so much to the album. this is going on my aoty list
top 3: Cruel Summers Bring FIRE LIFEE!!, Run It Back!!, EN EFF
my friend said "if paramore doesnt go on tour, I hope at least she does," and i 100% agree with that. if this album gets a tour (and goes to my city), you better bet i'm spending my money on those tickets. production was so good, felt cathartic, and idk she just sounds so free in this album. this is going on my aoty list.
top 3: Ice in My OJ, Glum, Parachute
i was familiar with a couple songs from the album, especially the opening track "playa playa," but i never really indulged into the entire album. i hate myself for coming around to it after his death. rip to a legend and the maker of an amazing album
top 3: playa playa, feel like makin' love, untitled (how does it feel)
this album really was melancholic, hazy, dreamy... it suits the vibes in the promo videos and album cover. the drum production on "swan" sounds like raindrops falling in rhythm on a thin metal sheet, which follows the nature-y atmosphere maria was creating in her videos. i was listening to this while reading kierkegaard's "either/or" book, and i feel like this quote from the shadowgraphs chapter captures the album and how i feel about it: "let us be silent for a ... read more
if i had the sudden urge to clean my room at 3am, this would be the soundtrack to this activity, with warm hues of light coming through the window as i clean my way into dawn.
top 3: best to you, desirée, better than me
DANCE...BOUNCE...
super dance-y and fun. i felt like i was going through the phases one would experience when at a club, which further supports the club atmosphere this album brings.
top 3: SEE U DANCE, WASSUP, LIVE RIGHT
dancey, bouncy, i like it. bangers.
top 3: Ring Ring Ring, I'll Take Care of You, Big Poe
loved the cultural and religious samples, i feel like they rlly tied the album together. the low bellows of the samples added depth to the production, and it gave me some sort of chills
top 3: So Be It, Ace Trumpets, M.T.B.T.T.F.
Lorde, I'm sorry for underestimating your music when I was younger. Your lyricism and sound couldn't get through my tiny 8-year-old brain.
top 3: Ribs, Team, Royals
filled with energy, good vibes, and a lot of fun. banger through and through.
fav tracks: BUSSIT, LIKE A PUNK, OK
i must admit, i'm pretty surprised that lil yachty would even take this approach to music in his career. i've never really listened to his songs before but i'm familiar with his usual genre. this is my first lil yachty album, and i must say, i'm pleasantly surprised. this experimental rock-soul production is great. i can see the vision he had for this album here. i also just found out that magdalena bay sampled "running out of time," for their "love is ... read more
this was a bold album. fiona's throaty voice supports the lyrics and the production of the album, with the lyrics being blunt and emotional. the tone of the album sounds like she's making fun of the situation she's in, almost in like a comedic-satirical way. with that said, the lyrics and production on some tracks seem to contrast each other, which just adds nuance to the experience. her scatty(?), cabaret-ish vibe is something i'd die for. this is solid.

was craving for some jazz fusion to accompany my studies and this perfectly satisfied that. the album definitely deserves more attention.
i feel like i'm dancing in a beautiful garden when i listen to this.

i know i'm a little late to this album, but it's better than never. i've only been exposed to "mental health," and when i started tearing up a little while listening to "mental health," i knew i had to listen to the album. let me tell you, this album is audibly HUGE. i listened to this on the bus and tried so hard to keep myself together. i really just wanted to close my eyes and lay on the floor, maybe release a few gasps here and there whenever i hear ... read more
Insanely political, the messages in these songs had to have landed. The lyrics were written in a way that gives us a little glimpse of how things were during 2Pac's time. Unfortunately, a lot of the social issues he brought up in this album still persists today (like "Keep Ya Head Up"). I personally think that this album deserves more attention. By all means, it's not perfect, but the beat is fun asf and the lyrics are crazily bold.
