I listened to this for the first time about a week or so ago, but I haven't decided to write a review until now just to let it marinate. To me, this album is nothing short of a masterpiece; it might resonate with me more than any album ever has in the past, which is an impressive feat. This has already become arguably my favourite album of all time, just because of how special it feels—Molina has some devastatingly emotional performances on many of these tracks, and the guest singers ... read more
The best experimental hip-hop album of all time. It's perfectly unsettling the whole way through, and has some of the most angelic production I've ever heard. The weird industrial feel works really well here, and nothing feels over the top or tries to engulf the vocals. An incredibly sound record lyrically and sonically, and you could argue that this deserves a 100 other than the fact that Black Smoke Rises isn't all that pleasant in some parts.

I have heard a lot of good things about this album, and to say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. I don't even know where to begin with this.
Firstly, I should probably say that I have NEVER liked the rage/digicore subgenre to begin with or any rage album for that matter; it's probably my least favourite genre ever (aside from maybe k-pop but I'm never listening to that in the first place). Top 3 Gorillaz for sure. The risks they took on this definitely paid off, and I agree with a lot of people that this is their most ambitious album yet. I genuinely like this new artistic direction (or short detour, for that matter) that Damon is taking with Gorillaz, but I also appreciate that there's always peak rap features on his records.
JID proving that he might be the most consistent rap artist of the 2020s once again. No missed on this, and it feels like there's a bit of everything on this record. In my opinion, Of Blue could be argued as his best song ever; summarises the amazing storytelling and flows of the whole album on an emotional 6 minute package.
HE'S SO BACK
Genuinely an amazing bounce back after his mental health crisis, if Circles was revamped and the AI was removed this could be a near perfect album. For now, I'm not going to hold the AI against him too much because of what he's been through, but hopefully we get a reissue in the near future that's clean of it. All The Love might genuinely be the best song of the year.
I will say that the last third of the album is pretty dogshit, especially since none of the ... read more
