Navy Blue - Memoirs in Armour
NR

Wow, this could be my album of the year. I feel such a connection to this music, in many of the things that we all struggle with as humans. Amazing project.

Zach Bryan - The Great American Bar Scene
NR

Listened to this on the train from Shiojiri to Nagano. Damn good album, thanks Zach.

Adrianne Lenker - Bright Future
NR

Wow. A deeply personal, heartwrenching, beautiful album. I'll admit I don't know enough about Lenker or their music to have much profound to say, though some of these songs don't need context to say what they need to say.

The first five songs of this album are just back to back quality, all with their own vision and sound that make them unique yet somehow linked. I could listen to the first half over and over again, and I fear I might have to. After Vampire Empire, I really ... read more

Sabrina Carpenter - emails i can't send
NR

I'll admit that I skipped through quite a few of these songs, so I can't review it fully. What I will say is that it's a very logical prequel to the artist we have in '24. A lot of this is kind of poor quality, but songs like Feather and Nonsense are future classics in my opinion.

Joey Valence & Brae - NO HANDS
NR

This is some really fun hip hop, I'm glad this exists in the world

Jadasea - Too Many Tears
NR

This is soo good. I feel like I need some more listens, though Jadasea is consistently making work that I really enjoy. Can't wait to see where he goes next (hopefully somewhere with MIKE)

Radiohead - Kid A
NR

Good album

Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
NR

I can definitely see the DNA of this album in many of the best releases of the 25 years following it. There's some great stuff here, there's some stuff that I don't love, but overall an undeniably legendary project.

Sierra Ferrell - Trail of Flowers
NR

While there are some true lowlights (that one about Cheatham County is so bad to my ears), Ferrell comes back with some more classic tracks. Lighthouse is a great song.

Home Brew - Home Brew
NR

It's been a while since I listened to the entirety of this project, but there are really so many classics on here. A bunch of artists going out there to say things that others in Aotearoa weren't willing to say at the time. Love the John Key lines, and the local atmosphere, great project.

Megan Moroney - LUCKY
NR

I really like a lot about this album. I'd mostly put it down to Moroney's charisma as an artist really

Ratboys - The Window
NR

A cool album

Empress Of - For Your Consideration
NR

I don't know if I've had time to fully process this album, but I will say that I don't think Empress Of has the same ability to wow as she used to four years ago (in my opinion). That being said, Lorelei is a future classic track.

NR

This was definitely a mission to get through. I can't say that I enjoyed every minute of it (or even every hour), though Chris(tine and the Queens) proves themself as one of our generation's greatest pop stars (in my opinion). I can't wait to see what we're given next.

Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.
NR

This is a great album. Pretty inspiring to see Lil Yachty change his sound so drastically in the last few years, I love it. Can't wait to see where we go next.

MIKE & Tony Seltzer - Pinball
NR

Does MIKE ever miss? This is yet another project that proves his skills as a rapper, along with his ability to collaborate with some hidden gems. The production from Tony Seltzer is consistent throughout, curating a vibe that flows through the whole 20 minute runtime. My biggest criticism might be that these beats feel too similar sometimes, missing that variety I'm used to from MIKE as an artist. Regardless, the features are well deployed in a project that feels like just more proof of this ... read more
