Not sure what I listened to, but I dig it. Metal and Mathcore turns out to be a match made in heaven.
If you are not a fan 2010's alt rock you may find this album to be a bit boring, but to me there is a beauty in the simplicity of this album. The sound is very consistent throughout the runtime, almost to its own detriment, and the flow between songs is very smooth. Less focus is put on the riffs, solos, and beats and more focus is put on the lyrics and the vocal delivery. I really dig the sound on this. It's hard, heavy, and emotionally complex. I also respect the runtime of this album at just under half an hour.
So this is where the good metalcore went. I've been having trouble getting into newer metal acts, particularly in the genre of metalcore, but I really dig Spiritbox's sound on here. They're able to mix things up to prevent the music from getting stale.
I like this album for what it is, a brisk 30 minute pop punk album that's fun to listen to. They're not reinventing the wheel by any means, but after all, if it ain't broke don't fix it. I found lots of genuine thoughts and emotions throughout that helped wrap it all up nicely. Also I agree, fuck HyVee.
