Even more of a mixed bag than the standard release of The Crux. Once again, I applaud his willingness to experiment with different sounds and different styles of rock music, but he isn’t doing anything particularly stand-out or interesting with these genres.
Top Songs:
Purgatory Silverstar
Thich Nhat Hanh
Awake
Sweet and very sincere album from Djo. His songwriting remains strong and there’s a lot of variety in the musical homages he creates, but for me personally, it’s not as sonically interesting or inventive as his previous efforts.
Top Songs:
Lonesome is a State of Mind
Potion
Egg
Fly
Charlie’s Garden
Djo’s debut is a confident, stylish project that wears its influences on its sleeve. Great production throughout, and a lot of solid ideas that he would refine on Decide a few years later.
Top Songs:
Tentpole Shangrila
Roddy
Mortal Projections
Flash Mountain
The album where Tyler starts to show his musical versatility. More varied and ambitious than Goblin, though not without its moments where it slips back into that brand of rancid vulgarity. Some great storytelling on the best tracks here.
Top Songs:
Answer
Colossus
IFHY
Rusty
Lone
The highs don’t land on the same level as Currents’ peaks, but The Slow Rush is a thematically cohesive, immaculately produced album with so many great, infectious hooks.
Top Songs:
One More Year
Borderline
Posthumous Forgiveness
Breathe Deeper
Lost in Yesterday
