reefuh - Anybody Else

20 song album that just reiterates what every other atlanta wannabe rapper says. This should be a case study on the loss of passion for modern day “underground” rap. It’s just so boring, nothing redeeming here.

Really don’t enjoy this. I get the limited atmosphere of sounds and how they build off each other, but the vocals and everything here just feels so empty and souless

Ethel Cain - Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You

Really riveting story about losing the fictitious image you had of someone you love. Fuck me eyes is such an amazing song and i don’t see enough people talking about it. Really good subject matter but the pacing just kinda took me out of it.

2hollis - boy

Flashes of beauty. The production on this album was my favorite part, 2hollis didn’t really bring much to the table for me. But again, THE PRODUCTION is amazing.

Dijon - Baby

WOW! I haven’t dove too deep into the psychedelic genre, but this was right up my alley. The song “Baby!” made me feel something deep in my chest near the midsection while the baby is being delivered. Such a soft, caring, creative album that deserves a listen.

nomu. - Sequence 01
76

A collection of raves inside a dandelion. Sequence 1 has spacey vocals, addicting melodies and truly transports you to a club with flickering strobe lights. On cuts like “Play pretend” you have this beautiful buildup to a really rewarding, flow-like state that just keeps pulling you in deeper. You have songs like Check that literally feels like someone’s pulling you into a mosh. The track “Mine” has an irresistible flow near the end of the song that makes it ... read more

Arm's Length - Everything Nice

One of my favorite Midwest Emo projects this year; It does a great job of fully immersing you in the sound. Something that always brings me joy is when an album doesn’t have bloat songs, and while i didn’t enjoy every song here, none of them feel unfinished. Very flushed out sound that captures the feeling of sitting in a poster covered early 2000s teenage room.

Cashmere Cat - 9

there are some songs on here that are really fun but the others just seem like we spammed every key and pressed post

Merges - Agnus

Very good vocals, and good ideas lyricism. Just a little sleepy at some points but it’s a easy listen.

Alexander Panos - Nascent

This album is the what I'd imagine ADHD feels like, it really lives up to the "collage" tag as it's constantly switching styles and beat patterns, always introducing you to something new. While I believe this is a strength it's also a weakness. Some of the songs feel like they just cant get their footing and its too much over the course of the 6 minute run time. They can also fall into a void of feeling directionless and fatiguing for your ears, but when they do finally ... read more

Sade Olutola - Arrow Heart

easy listen, but not really anything new here. good ideas but no real follow through.

Dead Calm - Accept

A little too formulaic for my liking and i felt the writing could’ve been stronger but definitely feels nostalgic. The album covers also so amazing.

Tiffany Day - HALO
90

Tiffany crafted an album that captures anxiety, depression, and the fear that you’re losing yourself by “loving” someone. But it feels like as we progress through the album she becomes more and more aware that it’s not love, it’s just infatuation and it stems from psychological issues, and she’s the problem for still sticking around. The intro track is one of the best tracks of the year and it’s just so incredible how she can be so talented lyrically ... read more

流線形 [Ryusenkei] - Tokyo Sniper

my first japenese city pop album. It was a cool introduction but i dont see myself revisiting it much since i dont think its fully my vibe.

zayok - In elsewhere
74

One of the most unique and heartbreaking projects in the underground. Some of the mixing and vocals on the beginning tracks are kinda iffy and kinda break the immersion but other than that the production and the dreamy vocals take over and keep you entertained. Whoever hurt bro THANK YOU! features are also something i’m usually not a big fan of, but on this album they’re all phenomenal except for one… but they add something to the song and i’ve been introduced to new ... read more

Love Spells - The Love I Showed You Was Yours To Keep
72

Haunting songs on here. The illness gave me chills, how Love Spells use personification to give death this life like feeling and take us through how he’s already captured multiple family members, either taking them fully or altering who they were and now he’s coming for the next member. Then you have songs like Lovers only which just shows they truly understand music. Their pacing and flow on the hazy dream like beat makes it impossible not to move your head.

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
65

Soliddd. Really makes your body wanna get up and move. Only gripe that’s consistent is just how toned down it is. I feel that sometimes there’s not enough substance to justify the 5 minute runtime of many of the songs. But lyricism and ear worms are there for sure

death's dynamic shroud - Faith in Persona
58

The beginning blew me away and the ending makes me feel so many emotions, but it feels like somewhere along the middle section the vision was lost and the samples they chose to use and the repetitive spamming of said samples and instrumentals just made my ears tired. but still so many cool things here

Kate Bush - Hounds of Love

Man... I'm just gonna say its not for me. I know this is one of the most beloved albums ever, and I love running up that hill as much as the next guy. I had such high expectations going into this since that's such a generational song and i expected the same level of quality from the song writing and production but it just fell flat for me. I don't know why its so hard to find anything to resonate with. Maybe I'll come back in a few months and see if it grows on me but at the ... read more
