Gao the Arsonist - DEGENERATE

Big and insane thanks to SillySally for letting me know this Mixtape came out because I had no idea it would be out today, or anytime soon, for that matter. Every single time I listen to one of Gao's albums, the immersion is absurd and absolutely perfect—his lyricism will never fail to stun and amaze me, no matter what he decides to put out and no matter what topics he decides to touch on. This Mixtape in particular might be one of my favourites from him; hence why I'm thinking ... read more

When I searched this album up on here, I'm not entirely sure why, but I was already expecting one or two reviews. Maybe even a handful of ratings. So, when I realised I would be the first, not only, to rate, but also to review, my heart sank ever-so-slightly. I think [ame_no_parade] are extremely underappreciated for the quality music they consistently put out; which has always fascinated me and left me wondering, how do more people not know about them and/or listen to them? This is a purely self-indulgent review, and a purely self-indulgent listen, as well. I've looped this album more times than I care to admit (if I were to count the amount of tears I've shed listening to it, it would probably get me locked up. And it would also be extremely embarrassing to out myself on here), but no matter how many times I come back to it, and listen to it again, it will never get old, or lose it's sense of charm, originality and blunt trauma. There's so ... read more

Not one single person can prove this album doesn't live in my headphones, and/or wasn't made to be heard through my headphones, and my headphones alone. Not one single soul can ever tell me that this isn't one of Mount Eerie's best albums, even though all their past projects have either made me want to brutally kill myself in front of an entire audience, in the most vile and visceral way possible or, write the most sinister, cannibalistic and bird-eating poetry ever. No ... read more

(I wasn't going to write anymore reviews today, but I remembered this album exists, and now I have to for my own sake and for the sake of my very good buddy Michael Gira, who did a fantastic job at explaining why he ate his wife). Despite this being a very Swans-sounding project, and despite me wanting Michael to branch out and cling less to the same sounds used in the band's other projects, I will never not love this piece. I've been attempting to gatekeep it as much as humanly ... read more
