Unfortunately, as an album, this project isn't a great listening experience for me. While there are a few bangers on here that I've been listening to since the release, they are few and far between. Most of this album just feels like filler, and at times, it even becomes a bit obnoxious to me.
It took me quite a few listens to really get into it, but after giving it a fair chance, this turns out to be a remarkably solid album. When I was around sixteen, I heavily rotated his 2013 record New, but over the years, that album hasn't aged too well for me. It leans too far into a polished, pop-rock slop aesthetic that just lacks any staying power.
The Boys of Dungeon Lane is completely different. After his last two records failed to strike a chord, this project feels genuinely ... read more
While there are some absolute highlights of Kanyes career on here, there also are a few misses and several tracks that are pretty much just alright.
While it isn't quite as innovative as their later works, this album acts as the perfect bridge between those and their earlier pop sound. It's a very cohesive project that shows them maturing in real-time. Apart from that fucked up final femicide anthem, there really just isn't anything bad about this album. It's a solid front-to-back listen.
It ain't Peggy's best work, and at some points, his flow does get noticeably monotone. I also really could've lived without those obnoxious dubstep bits scattered across some of the tracks. Still, I feel like this project is overhated. There are some undeniable bangers on here, and when this album actually delivers, it is a enjoyable listen, to me at least.
Honestly, this is somewhat underrated on here. private music is such a late-career masterpiece, seriously rivaling their best efforts. It’s incredibly cohesive and manages to capture that heavy, atmospheric sound perfectly without ever feeling stale. Flawless front-to-back listen.
Amazing debut, even if the second side feels slightly unnecessary.
This album is somewhat underrated, especially here on the site. Compared to Thriller, I feel like Bad has much more interesting production choices and a significantly better album flow. Even if the individual hit singles are just slightly weaker than his previous work, the cohesive vision here is stronger. To me it’s MJ's second-best project, sitting just behind Off The Wall for its sheer bravery and grit.
I don't really know how much of this album she really made herself and I suppose her label probably is exaggerating her influence to some degree, but yeah for a 12 year old this still is impressive. At its core, this is still boring rage slop, but to her credit, it’s at least more interesting than what guys like Ken Carson or Destroy Lonely came out with.
Close enough, welcome back Kacey Musgraves. Oh wait it's actually Kacey Musgraves
Overall, a pretty enjoyable listen. I really liked the first half, but the second side is notably weaker. I really don’t get the appeal behind Somewhere Else; it sounds pretty much like a Geometry Dash level. While it does end on a high note with two more decent tracks, I wish they would've dug a bit deeper into the more Trip-Hop adjacent soundscapes introduced in the first two tracks. It's solid, but it feels like it’s holding back its best ideas.
I don't really think it's fair to rate this like an album; it is a compilation of singles and it feels like one. There are absolute masterpieces here – the first two discs are flawless and among their best material to date. However, the third disc is a bit underwhelming, feeling slightly unfinished and too conceptual for a standalone single release. While the final disc starts with another great track, the very last song feels like a misplaced album outro, which to me ... read more
It's good, but nothing too special. The second half is definitely the stronger side, but even then, there isn't that much more to explore after a few listen.
