the first 2/3 of this album is absolutely superb. glitch and acoustic guitar make a neat sort of melancholy mood. the remaining last two tracks however aren't as interesting, just kinda unremarkable, yet decent enough dub techno
This album comes straight from the "hardvapour" scene, which is less a genre and more a movement in rebellion against the typicalities of vaporwave (namely a calm aesthetic and a depiction of idealist capitalism). Like many other hardvapour producers, DJ Alina purports to be Eastern European of origin and her work is harsh and brash favoring properly synthesized sound instead of manipulated samples of musak. ambient dub with a hard focus on the "ambient" part. four luscious glitchy worlds that you can lay down and get lost in.
Turns out that guy who acted like he couldn't see a clue right beside him for kids' amusement had put out an album after he quit the show that got him "big". It also turns out that it's really good. Quirky songwriting that I'd expect from the Steve I grew up watching on TV, combined with really solid instrumentation courtesy of Steve Drozd of the Flaming Lips. Pretty nice work for what it is.
Richard's debut on Warp Records shows him making his style of rave music, with some small more ambient pieces in the latter half of the album. Not the best of the AI series but it ain't really that bad at all. Tracks like Quoth and If It Really Is Me make this worth a listen especially.
