On her debut album, Chxrry stuns with pretty vocals showing her range but this is juxtaposed by the huge lyrical flaws in this album. The lyrics are close to abominable. I would argue that they are more than questionable, with them being not well thought out or clever. I think this is a good album.
Nothing more but maybe decent at worst.
Contextually, Kim Petras has struggled both sonically and creatively due to no fault of her own but the fault of an exploitative, controlling label. Therefore, after leaving her label, this is an opportunity to make an album that is her own, a greatly authentic album. Only half of that is true. might be one of ariana’s worst lead singles. the production is so flavourless it’s pissing me off. there’s some good lyrics here and there but in the chorus… it literally does nothing. there’s not even that much to the production at all and even ariana’s performance on the track is so bland compared to her previous works. what a safe single. also this song just sounds like it could be on eternal sunshine. disappointed but not surprised.
So much potential!!! The lyrics are emotionally captivating in its messaging and execution as seen through this electro-pop fusion. Tori Ko-Ko seems to have a good eye for a chorus with this reminding me of Girl so confusing, with the lyrics being so raw and despondent simultaneously with the atmospheric, kind of clubby production.
