I'm not entirely sure why I decided to listen to this album. It's not like I particularly liked the album that follows this one, outside of a few tracks. But I'll give this album credit, it definitely has more "good" songs. Break Stuff slaps, Nookie slaps, and tracks like Re-Arranged and Nothing Like You are pretty good as well. But things start getting bland around the half-way mark and the whole thing falls off a cliff with the last few tracks. It's better than ... read more
This album just goes for it at all times, and I respect that.
I did enjoy A Beautiful Lie more than this one, but that doesn't take away from the fact that I found this more interesting than any other album in their discography. This is a bold direction to go in for a debut album, and it just makes this band's descent into bland, radio-friendly pop music all the more disappointing. This was definitely the highlight of my marathon of this band, and easily my favorite album of theirs. I can understand the opinion that Attack and The Kill are the only notable parts of this album as they are easily the two best songs this band ever released. But I do think that as a whole, the song quality on this album is strong. It's a shame it was all downhill from here.
Best Song(s): Attack, The Kill (Bury Me)
Weakest Song: A Modern Myth
Love Lust Faith + Dreams really is just a weaker version of this album huh?
This albums attempts to feel big feel much more earned in my opinion, and the overall song quality is better than the album that follows this. I do think some songs go on for longer than they need to though. It's not a fantastic album by any means, but four albums in and I finally managed to get a good one from this band.
Best Track: This Is War
Weakest Track: Alibi
This wasn't great, but after listening to their two most recent albums, this was a breath of fresh air. I don't think any of the tracks were anything special, but nothing was particularly bad either. My biggest issue with the album doesn't even have to do with the songs, it's the intermissions. It really feels like they wanted the songs to feel bigger than they actually were, and while I think that worked fairly well on This Is War, it falls a bit flat here.
Not a fantastic ... read more
