The Village has a very pure and minimalist sound led by powerful mbira playing that make it a spiritual experience. Poetic lyrics which feel like a series of oral traditions that inspire and entertain.
Youthful passion and willingness to experiment with different sounds but she knows what works. Her personality shines through in both the playful moments and the more serious moments in the album. She is oozing self confidence
Layers and layers of rich music held together by an ever present well calculated bass guitar.
A timeless classic. Salif at his peak. An album encompassing everything that has made him one of the greatest musician in Africa.
2018 done this is my AOTY
A maverlous blend of old and new. A versatile album that combines the modern and a smooth classic sound typical of Mali music.
One of the The Greatest Album Of All Time.
Kendrick Lamar had a lot to get of his chest and the best way to express all these thoughts and feelings was by combining everything African-American culture has to offer. Jazz, hip-hop, funk, soul, spoken-word were all thrown in and masterfully put together creating an intricate mapping of his own train of thoughts.

Esperanza Spalding unhinged but...
Like carefully calculated chaos. A wonderful fusion of theatrical music. Each track independent and unique but still fits together well.
Janelle Monàe never disappoints. She is oozing confidence continuing to fuse multiple genres so seamlessly. The movement from one genre to the next makes Dirty Computer feel like travelling through time with her. Each song exploring different themes that include the present state of the world, self-confidence, empowerment and sexuality
Beautiful and fragile sound that perfectly captures the idea of AROMANTICISM. This desire to be completely detachment from the world ends up becoming relatable the more I listened. The highlights of the album were "Quarrel" and "Lonely World"
A Seat at the Table is honest with no bullshit in-between. Just a soft spoken and highly chargered woman speaking her truth with no fear. It feels like letters from a person coming to terms with the world and how it perceives her. And ends with encouraging words of hope "We come here as slaves but we are going out as royalty..."
A phenomenal encapsulation of the human state of mind with a fascinating dynamic of melancholy lyrics and a warm comforting sound. With every listen I keep finding something new in this album. It's more refined than 'High Violet' and all their previous work. Trouble Will Find Me definitely feels like a closing chapter and whatever they do next will be different from all their previous albums
The album that made love music. The first album I've ever purchased. As a teenager I was obsessed with Hayley Williams, the rocker girl with the colorful hair and power to express emotions that my introverted personality wasn't able to. Listening to it I found myself saying 'she gets me.' This album holds so much sentiment
