While it’s not as consistent as last year’s project, this album still has some fantastic moments. The 2000s skater bops like “see u dance” or “bust down,” and the more low-key nostalgia tracks like “live right,” really shine in this tracklist. I do think that a lot of the magic from these songs gets copied a bit too many times with “partys over,” “is this love,” or “disco tomorrow,” but those don’t hit as ... read more
Despite the 'okay' singles, I was still really interested in this album. A house album produced by the one and only Kevin Parker seems so interesting on paper. Unfortunately, Deadbeat manages to blow my already modest expectations out the window, and not in a good way. You can always count on Kevin Parker's great production, but this album just doesn't seem to care. Most house songs seem so low effort. I could have made them on Ableton. There's just so little to praise, ... read more
Tame Impala is such an interesting artist. I’ve only listened to Currents before, and compared to that, this album sounds a lot less clean. Currents delivers a grand soundscape where every instrument and lyric is crystal clear. This album is the opposite, it’s very distorted and it’s often hard to make out what he is saying. But that’s exactly the appeal. I love the overwhelming production, and the distorted vocals, they perfectly capture the album’s themes of ... read more
Still so sad that Mac died at arguably the peak of his career. This album is so introspective and creative. Even 7 years later, I have yet to see many rappers take such an artistic route. Mac’s death remains such a tragic loss for music, but also for the world.
Man’s Best Friend feels like a step back for Sabrina. Coming off the hype of Short n’ Sweet, she probably wanted to keep the hype going and as a result, this feels very rushed. While Short n’ Sweet really felt like a complete album, this album feels far less defined. There are still some really good songs, but this album doesn’t flow as well compared to her previous albums.
Actual dogshit. Bro really thought he was slick putting Jimmy Cooks as the last track.
Jid continues his hot streak. Obviously, this will get compared to the forever story. And when holding it up to that standard, there is no competition to be honest. But, this is still a great album. Jid sounds extra hungry on tracks like community or k-word and he never dissapoints with his flow.
A lot more chill, but a lot less consistent than their first outing. Still, this remains a very strong showing from Freddie.
Nothing too special for Tyler. Just a really fun and consistent album.
Probably the best comeback album I have ever heard. Pharrell just entered his third prime. So Be It is actually a generational beat. The features throughout the album are so consistent and all bring something new to the table. And damn, Malice... I was unfamiliar with your game. He and Pusha are so locked in, like there isn't even a single verse from them that is just 'okay', everything is top-tier. Hip-hop is so back.
Addison is anything but authentic. From the cover alone, it’s clear she wears her influences on her sleeve. Britney Spears, Charli xcx, Sabrina Carpenter; I can hear a bit of each of them throughout the album. Having influences is okay. The problem? She doesn't try anything new. It feels cheap, from the cringe lyrics to the to the so-called experimental soundscape. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy a fair bit of the production, but the beat alone can't carry a song. ... read more
Pinkpantheress is such a consistent artist. While this mixtape is definely nothing special, it’s still so much fun.
This is admittedly my first young thug project and man i have missed out. I have heard him on a lot of features and his voice really stood out. There are some songs on this like what's the move and cartier gucci scarf where he goes absolutely crazy with his delivery. I'm actually of the opinion that if young thug really locks in and sobers up, he could make a fantastic album. Up until now it's mostly been quantity over quality. While there are definitely still some misses here, ... read more
I don’t understand why this was marketed as a deluxe album. It feels like it’s own thing. That said i do think SOS and CTRL are better. Yeah, Lana definitely has some standouts but it never reaches the highs of SOS, and there’s definitely some unnecessary filler. Still a pretty fun album.
Easiest 10/10 of my life. A timeless classic in every sense of the word. Stevie wonder is just one of those artists who is impossible to hate. And he is a wonderful musician on top of that. The production has aged perfectly, I’m confident that even a few hundred years from now, this will still sound amazing. And that tracklist is just stupendous. 21 tracks and literally every song is incredible. If you don’t at least respect this album, I genuinely can’t trust your taste in ... read more
Definitely Charli’s most experimental effort to date. Crazy that this was made during lockdown in just 2 months. In terms of my preference, I still place her self-titled album and Brat above this. Those albums are a little better balanced in my opinion. Here, it leans maybe a little too much into the experimental side. That said, this is undoubtely one of her most reflective works. I have never seen Charli get so introspective about her relationship. This project 100% deserves more ... read more
Carti actually has the most annoying fanbase of all time. No way y’all are listening to opm babi thinking it’s fire. This album is so inconsistent, it has some decent songs but the most songs are just filler. Carti is known for pushing boundaries. Whole Lotta red and Die Lit were groundbreaking. And this is just bringing nothing new to the table. The only new thing he actually tries is his new deep voice, which sounds like a worse version of future. You must really hate your fans if ... read more
Mayhem is Lady Gaga’s boldest album in this last leg of her career. While the second half is not nearly as good as the first, the album remains consistent overall. However it doesn’t quite stick the landing. The last three tracks are surprisingly underwhelming, especially die with a smile which feels slapped on and doesn’t fit anywhere on this album and definitely not as the outro. Still, there are glimpses of Lady Gaga back in her prime. I haven’t seen this kind of ... read more
Eusexua is similar to brat but not in the way you think. It doesn’t just capture the party itself, but it also captures the transcendental feeling that alcohol and drugs give you while at this party. I'm so impressed by the sound of this album. It feels like that one rave scene in babygirl. While that scene SHOWED us the trippy, glitchy experience of a rave, this album lets us HEAR it. Eusexua is also such a cool word, and the fact that Twigs made up this word and perfectly defined ... read more
