Against all odds, Iceman is actually pretty okay. It's not a very interesting record sound-wise, but Drake tries hard enough with his flows, delivery and some decent production chops. The album definitely didn't blow me away and it most certainly doesn't live up to it's name. Still, we should be grateful; this is late stage drake, we could be doing a lot worse. Voodoo is one of those albums I genuinely can’t believe it took me this long to listen to. Just like The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, it feels like an album that was made specifically for me. R&B is one of my favorite genres when it’s done right, and Voodoo is literally the blueprint for so many modern R&B styles.

I’m not even going to waste too many words on this. This is genuinely one of Drake’s worst albums, it’s slightly better than Honestly Nevermind, but that’s not saying much. Nothing Was the Same is the album that reminds people Drake wasn’t always the lazy, formulaic artist people reduce him to today. A lot of the criticism he gets now is fair, which is exactly why this version of Drake stands out so much in hindsight because back then he sounded hungry and focused, like someone trying to demonstrate he belonged with the best rappers alive.
