A record with a childlike whimsicality and energy to it and production that both touches lo-fi folk and psychedelic yacht-rock, if that’s even a thing.
Dot Hacker's third record felt very homogenous when it first came out, and by that I mean it sounded like one single colour to me. After a few listens I was able to distinguish the tracks from one another and that is where I really fell in love with most of them. The first song that really spoke to me was We're Going Where, due to the fact that it really sounded like a song that's both composed as improvised due to it's loose and moody nature.

This record pleases and satisfies and moves me on many different levels and seems to work as an unexhaustive source of inspiration ever since it came out. The sound design is so good and immersive, Shabaka's sax playing is soaring, psychedelic and so well composed and the drumming gets me off my seat. A melting trip.

I was underwhelmed at first since I've been holding Dot Hacker in such high esteem. I wasn't really impressed by the single Shade for example and it still is my least favorite on the record along with Never Really there, I'm not overly fond of Save and the Ride either. Songs like Crawl, Mourning and Segue have really grown on me and I would rank them up there with Josh's best output so far.
