I think this album rules, I don't care what y'all think.
Two really great songs (Born on the Cusp / Green Green Grass) save this one from complete irrelevance for me.
If - at 8 tracks - you can overcome two duds and still make a 100 (on the completely perfect and unimpeachable rating system created by some lunatic whose name will be withheld for privacy reasons), that might just be the best collection of 6 tracks you could create.
I want to party and clean my house and climb a tree and do taxes and slowly drive in circles around the grocery store parking lot and cook a complicated recipe all at the same time.
The fact that I liked this so much when I was 14, and the fact that it reminds me of playing Mario Kart 64 with my buddy Doug certainly elevates this album much higher than it has any right to be.
First impressions: It sounds absolutely gorgeous. Lovely orchestral layers. I didn't pay too close attention to lyrics on the first spin, but I definitely heard him say that he was going to shoot someone in the fucking face repeatedly, so you know...it's a Nick Cave album.
A step down from their debut, and a far throw from their superb follow up, but an enjoyable listen, nonetheless.
Raekwon is probably (in italics) my favorite from Wu-Tang, but even his finest solo album needs about 25-30 minutes of fat cut off. It's way too long. People seem to have differing opinions on the value of the skits, and that's fine. I don't love them, but I don't hold it against the artists, either. Just, please, split them off onto their own tracks. Even if I love a song, I'm not going to add it to a playlist if I have to sit through or skip over 90 seconds of skit to get to the song. This is the most "meh" album that has ever meh'ed. I can listen to it, but......meh.
There is certainly a very good argument to make for this being Radiohead's worst album, but the low ratings here are misguided, I think. Removing the impossible expectations they set for themselves with their future work, this is quite an enjoyable record in its own right. A few duds, and a few standouts. Not exceptional, but good.
I mean, it's beautiful. But I also think it's kind of lazy to take one idea for a song, make it 10x longer than it needs to be, and call it an LP.
Spot-on Lou Reed impression. I would say "this sounds like if Lou Reed made a jangle pop album" but if I'm being honest, this album is a little too same-y for Lou Reed. It's a very enjoyable listen, but nothing stands out. It sounds like one 31 minute long song.
It kind of loses steam in the second half, but this was a surprisingly enjoyable pop album for the 80s. Bonny is a definitely standout. I believe the kids would call it a banger?
This album sounds like a 60s throwback, appropriate for its time, and well ahead of its time - all at once. Not sure how that's possible, but I love it.
I like these guys, but with the exception of Cars in Space, all of these songs kind of sound the same. Their debut is a much more consistently better album, even without a Cars in Space caliber track.
