Paramore - After Laughter
NR

the sweet and danceable sound of numbly drowning in despair.

Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell!
80

t's very jack antonoff in parts which i don't love. he's very talented but what i mean by 'very jack antonoff' is all the vocal layering and same-y folk indie production that has been done to death in the 2020s. this is considered by a lot of people to be her best album and i agree that it's very well written and produced but looking back on it after sad girl indie has become 110% more mainstream is just a little boring as someone who is kinda sick of that genre. ... read more

Lana Del Rey - Honeymoon
100

perhaps her magnum opus? honeymoon IS alive and breathing. it's always been alive and always breathed steadily and powerfully every second it has existed on earth... i'm not exaggerating. yes it's slower and i sometimes tire of slower music, but i cant fault this album at all when it perfectly encapsulates all of lana's influences and makes an absolutely beautiful and iconic art piece. some of her unreleased stuff like 'tired of singing the blues' absolutely blow ... read more

Paramore - brand new eyes
82

‘Brand New Eyes’ is exactly what the title says it is - a fresh perspective on life, change, and on newfound maturity.

the angst of AWKIF and Riot! is innocent and posits them as the younger, less-experienced siblings of BNE, a record whose angst is real and furious. the band members, having grown up emotionally and sonically, have matured into hating each other, and thank god for that because it makes for some pretty damn good music.

the a-side of BNE is EXCELLENT. the rest of ... read more

Paramore - Riot!

when i first listened to “Riot!”, i hadn’t listened to any other paramore records, but listening to it has caused a positive chain of events that has pretty much changed my life, which i won’t get into. needless to say, i’m biased.

the opening track encapsulates what the rest of the record is - basic pop punk. that was my first thought upon hearing that song : “why would they purposefully make something so cliché and unadventurous?”. despite ... read more

Paramore - All We Know Is Falling
75

“all we know is falling” is, in fact, extremely impressive. that is, when you consider the fact that the ever-changing paramore lineup, in 2005, were teenagers — zac farro, the drummer, being freshly 15 at the release of the record. “conspiracy”, one of the strongest tracks on the record, was written when he was 11 and hayley williams was 13. i’ll admit, these facts sway me to rate the album much higher than i would if the band members were grown-ass adults. ... read more

Lana Del Rey - Born to Die
80

"born to die” manages to remain timeless after 13 years, providing a still-refreshing stark contrast to the mouldy, expired 2012 hellscape of “we are young”, “sexy and i know it”, and, most importantly, “mama do the hump”. its appeal to both teenage girls and their middle aged divorced fathers is also notable - my own dad admitted to listening to this record on his iPod while watching my gymnastics class in 2012. so what IS its appeal? i listened ... read more

Josh Farro - Walkways

saying everything’s gonna be alright and ur gonna survive is uplifting in itself but not so much when it’s coming from a homophobic racist
