'Changes' is the final instalment in King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's October 2022 run of albums and while it's not the best thing that they dropped this month it's still a really fun album that ends this batch of albums on a high note. The last couple of albums have been these progressive jam band like albums with really funky grooves and jazz-rock instrumentation and 'Changes' isn't too different from that template the band stuck with, except this time the mood is much more understated and blissful, and with much more of a poppy edge it has a different feel to the others tonally, and at its best it's really fun and warm. The grooves are there, the playful instrumentation is there, the textures are pleasing, the melodies are there, each track feels distinct and the best moments are really infectious like 'Astroturf' and 'Gondii'. There are some moments that just kinda breeze by without leaving an impression unfortunately but the good material on here is really satisfying. All in all, not a bad way to end the October 2022 album run, here's hoping for a King Gizz Hip-Hop album when the holidays roll around ;)
