It's just one brilliant cut after another on this classic LP. Simply beautiful music.
Bold, abrasive and oftentimes psychedelic, Kanye West and Kid Cudi's collaborative LP "KIDS SEE GHOSTS" provides a concise and purposeful dose of music through 7 punchy tracks, which value quality over quantity.
"Hurry Up Tomorrow" is a grand, cinematic and fitting finale to The Weeknd's latest (and final?) trilogy. The production on this album is absolutely incredible, with all the tracks seamlessly transitioning into each other beautifully (particularly from "Baptized In Fear" to "Open Hearts"). Lyrically, Abel is also on point, touching on themes of paranoia, depression and isolation. His vocals are characteristically smooth and silky as he glides gracefully over ... read more
Kendrick Lamar's 2015 album "To Pimp a Butterfly" is his (and maybe even all of hip-hop's) magnum opus. There is nothing I can really say about this album that hasn't been said already - it is truly a masterpiece and embodies everything a rap album should be, laying down an impossible benchmark for generations of artists to come. This is lyrical and musical genius at its finest.
I appreciate some of the ambitious sampling and production efforts on this LP, but I don't think that Death Grips' style of music will ever be for me.
Mac Miller fans could not have hoped for a more thoughtful and introspective posthumous album than "Circles", which beautifully pays homage to the talented Malcolm McCormick. The singer-songwriter approach which is taken on this album is an artistic choice which definitely pays off, creating a more emotional and personal experience as Miller guides listeners through the prominent mental health issues he was facing. The more stripped back approach taken on many of the tracks, ... read more
"Random Access Memories" is a beautiful celebration of music which serves as a fantastic final album for legendary French house duo Daft Punk. Although a new direction is taken with the production and beat selection for this album (with a number of tracks feeling as if they have walked straight out of the 80s), it is by no means any less emotional and thoughtfully-crafted than Daft Punk's other work. From smooth, melodic cuts such as "Within" and "Beyond" to ... read more
An incredible soundtrack to an equally incredible film. Hans Zimmer really gets the concept spot on with this, creating an almost ethereal, otherworldly atmosphere through the music, an iconic and fitting backdrop for “Interstellar”.
This song causes me generational head loss every year…
What a fantastic comeback album from The Cure! After a 16-year hiatus, the legendary British gothic rock band are back with a bang, at their brilliant best after a number of subpar projects in the 2000s. Lyrically, the album is typically bleak and deeply emotional, taking listeners on a heartbreaking journey through the psyche of lead singer Robert Smith. It is possibly the most honest, personal and vulnerable Smith has felt on a Cure album to date. Then instrumentally, “Songs of a Lost ... read more
A Christmas song which is genuinely sad (and very good as well).
The surprise album “GNX” is Kendrick Lamar’s first official release since the famous 2024 rap battle between himself and Drake, in which he came out as clear victor. It rounds off a historical 2024 for Kendrick, throughout which he asserted himself as the king of hip-hop, dismissing any claims of a “big three” existing in the genre. The album name and cover art really reflect Kendrick’s feelings that he is the undisputed top dog of rap, as the 1987 Buick ... read more
A short but insane track from FKA twigs; the heavy bass and glitchy beats which seem all over the place at first really do fit together, resulting in a gripping listen. The punchy drum patterns absorb you completely in the song. This definitely suggests that FKA twigs will continue to push the boundaries of experimental sound and continue their creative streak on their new album “EUSEXUA” - which I am very excited for!
This single really embodies all of Rocky’s best qualities, from the sharp, to-the-point flows and productive elements to the lovely feature from Jessica Pratt at the end. It really is classic psychedelic trap Rocky. Hopefully the album drops sooner rather than later.
Although many will claim that the primary purposes of "Endless" were for Frank Ocean to free himself of the Def Jam record label, and to act as a teaser to his 2016 masterpiece "Blonde", the album really is an art form in its own right. By far the most overlooked and underappreciated Frank Ocean project, the visual album "Endless" was a particularly important step for Frank in his growth as an artist. Not only did it signify his return to music after a lengthy ... read more
After largely enjoying both Playboi Carti's debut mixtape and LP, I went into this record with high hopes for what the Atalanta rapper could come up with. However, I was left surprised by the direction he chose to take on 'Whole Lotta Red', using quite a different delivery of his bars to that on 'Die Lit'. The production is also not as tight in any sense, making Carti's sophomore album feel rushed, messy and even unfinished in places. That being said, there are ... read more
