They Might Be Giants - The World Is to Dig
85

This album is almost entirely backloaded, there's a few great songs on the first half but it really starts once you hit Get Down!
Favorites: In the Dead Mall, Get Down, Wu-Tang, Character Flaw, New Wave Will Never Die and What the Cat Dragged In

Pow Pow Family Band - The Palm and Other Parts

So far this is my album of the year, I can't even describe the journey it took to discover this thing but it was definitely worth it. It's atmospheric, very well produced, has a great sense of humor at the right times ("Bring some dippies for the chippies"), the vocals are perfect and it's just so good! If you've somehow stumbled onto this album listen to it immediately!

The Smile - Wall of Eyes
85

While I didn't particularly care for the previous album I thankfully enjoyed this one far more. The biggest criticism I have is it just feels like it's repeating stuff these musicians have already done, however that stuff they previously did was also really good, therefore this is also really good albeit a bit repetitive. You Know Me!, Under Our Pillows and the title track are my current favorites!

Billy Cobb - Zerwee
55

It's... okay. It's a very good emulation of early Weezer, unfortunately that is also why I don't really care for it that much. The Shell Shack and 1955 are pretty alright, the rest are eh. Just like with early Weezer I can pretty clearly tell I'm not the target audience of this.

Billy Cobb - Zerwee, Pt. 2
74

This is at least more enjoyable to me than the real Pinkerton was. The biggest issue here is The Barg'n-Mart and Sail Away, Old Friend overshadow the other songs to much that the rest practically becomes filler.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation
80

I was hesitant going into this considering Infest the Rats' Nest was one of the only times I'd ever found metal boring, that combined with how much I dislike the album cover made me just really not look forward to this. Surprisingly the music is actually really entertaining this time! (I still despise that cover art though)

The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention
65

It's uh, it really exists, it's an album alright.
It really is one of the studio albums ever.

The Smile - The Smile at Montreux Jazz Festival July 2022
79

Finally I can listen to the good versions of the songs, the album got mutilated in the studio.

The Smile - Thin Thing
75

I am going to find the evil person in the studio who decided "Hey you know what the lead instrument of this song needs? A HARD PAN TO THE RIGHT HEADPHONE FOR THE ENTIRE RUNTIME.". I love the live version but I just can't bear the horrid mixing this got in the studio.

Muse - Kill Or Be Killed (Felsmann + Tiley Reinterpretation)
89

The answer to "why?" is this was a remix used as a soundtrack to an interstitial on the world tour. People just really hate synthesizers.

Porcupine Tree - Signify
92

This album has grown on me with every listen, even more so after checking out Insignificance. Definitely one of my favorites and I adore the atmospheric spookiness that oozes from this thing, the cover alone gives off a really strange feeling but the music takes it to a whole new level.
You start out with a strange noisy intro before the album kicks into the title track which almost sounds like a prototype of Deadwing (the sound of the album not just the Deadwing title track), then the more ... read more

Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
90

This album is surprisingly one of the most easily digestible things in the Porcupine Tree catalogue to me, it's rather short and the bulk of it is taken up by the Anesthetize suite thingy. It has odd production and can sound like certain instruments are hitting an invisible brick wall and not being allowed to reach their full volume or spread around the soundscape but I was able to fix it a little by messing with my headphone EQ settings, not something I think you should need to do for any ... read more

Muse - Absolution XX Anniversary
100

This mix takes out a lot of the dynamics present in the original, so while I wouldn't recommend it in full for super critical listening I would highly recommend it for if you just want to hear the album while on a bus ride or something similar. Stockholm Syndrome is VASTLY improved in this mix but on the other side Endlessly is downgraded slightly, it's not quite a mixed bag though as there are definitely far more improvements than downgrades. I do feel there was a massive missed opportunity to ... read more

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - The Silver Cord
99

If you look up on the top of this page you'll see a review from Record Collector, it states and I quote "It just depends if you want to be immersed in the weirdness for a manageable or psychopathic amount of time.", now I do not wish to criticize this review and I actually have nothing to say about it, I am bringing this up because I do indeed wish to be immersed in said weirdness for a psychopathic amount of time.

The Drosps - Lounge Thyme
75

This is a very good album, it was intended as a small break album for the band so the absurd lore wouldn't overwhelm everybody. It's a decently well put together Drosps record that has a very stripped down and chill tone to it (at least in comparison to the rest of the discography). There are of course, multiple exceptions.. notably, The Gnome Boogie. GnoMe BOoGIE GNOME BOOGIE GNOMEB BOOGAIE GNOMGE G BEG NNEAMNOME AGNAMEMOME BOOGIEUIEI GGNOME BABOOGIEEEEEE

Wheezercord - The Piss Album LIVE / Out In The Yellow Snow / In The Toilet Again / Wheezercord Live
60

It's a miracle this show even happened to begin with, for what is basically a first live performance this could've gone a lot worse!
In some ways the charm of this live album is how scuffed it all is, technical issues are around every corner and it can all seem like the most endearing mess you've ever seen, but somehow alright performances of songs are still pulled out of the abyss. The rehearsals were much better though and I still wish the initial version of The Numbers Song got recorded..

Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts VI: Locusts
84

Easily described as the best horror movie soundtrack that doesn't exist.
The Worriment Waltz alone makes this worth it to listen to!

Nine Inch Nails - Bad Witch
87

This EP turned album thingy is crunchy audio death with funny jazz horns, and it's great!
Very short but that also means there isn't really any filler here, it does what it wants to and then gets out. I like the low fidelity noise that got worked into the ambient tracks on here and the vocals are very unique to other NIN releases, you're basically not going to find anything else in the discography that sounds exactly like this. It's a very short listen and I'd highly recommend checking this out ... read more

Nine Inch Nails - The Slip
89

While not a perfect album I find myself returning to this far more than some other releases, 1,000,000 is a little disappointing but not bad, everything after it is great. I love Letting You, Discipline, Echoplex, etc but my favorite part has to be Lights In the Sky -> Corona Radiata. There are some issues though and the largest is the organization of the tracklist, having so many tracks with a similar tone in a row can make them blend together on full album listens and appear less ... read more

Muse - The 2nd Law
100

To me this album really starts as soon as Survival ends, the first half is great and Panic Station is incredible, but that second half just feels so incredibly cohesive and perfect to me that I'll just repeatedly listen to it from that point.
Incredible high points on this album! Panic Station, Animals, Explorers, Big Freeze, Liquid State, etc. It truly earns its place as the 2nd best Muse album in my opinion!
