Maybe I just don't get it, but..
My best friend recommended this to me, saying I would love the production- and I did. It was about the only thing I enjoyed-
The opening was so strong it left me disappointed that the rest of the album wasn't as heavy. Still really good though.
came in w low expectations, got out w aoty>>>>
In many ways, this album feels like it's revisiting Linkin Park's entire discography, and I'm here for it. The highlights imo were probably Over Each Other, Two Faced, and Overflow (which sounded the most like a new era and something we've never heard before from them). However, Casualty and IGYEIH's "meh" breakdown, knock it down a little for me.
while the first Overcompensate was a legitimately incredible comeback to the Dema storyline, and created a lot of hype for this """"Epic conclusion""""; it didn't really end up delivering on that promise. Doesn't mean the songs are bad - some of them are kinda meh but overall it's pretty good - Routines in the Night, Vignette, Navigating and At the Risk Of Feeling Dumb are especially great (thank you Josh).
Had high expectations - heard YOUtopia - expectations lowered - heard Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd - expectations raised back up - thought it couldn't get any better - heard liMOusIne - the rest of the album never reaches that height again but gets real close.
Edit: Most of the songs have severely grown on me after learning about the lore.
By not very far, her best album. it's short, but impactful; all over the place but in just the right way. i'm in love.
This was my first introduction to The Cure and is probably still my favorite album by them.
I'll start by saying that, contrary to most people on this platform, i like AJR. I like their crazy production, i like their childish attitude on the lyrics, and i like the passion and love they put in their projects. That said, I've never felt so conflicted about an album of theirs before. On one hand you have great songs like The Dumb Song, 2085, and God Is Really Real (which makes me cry every time); on the other, you've got SteVe'S goiNG tO LonDOn.
For starters, it seems people here call this pop punk- it's not. A couple of songs, sure. But most of the tracklist is straight up alt rock or nu metal, with a tiny bit of acoustic ballads to break things up. I'll say however, that the pop punk tracks are what bring this LP down for me, as they sound identical to what we're getting from Avril Lavigne and MGK. I appreciated the Flyleaf and Linkin Park throwbacks though.
GUTS' biggest strength is its Live-show-like pacing: with songs coming in waves of guitar-heavy-pop bangers, followed by a couple of gut *hehe* punching ballads. The writing itself is a massive improvement over SOUR. "pretty isn't pretty" hit me the most with its themes of dysmorphia and self-acceptance; others like "bad idea right?" and "get him back" made me giggle with their self-aware irrationality. "logical" is the biggest ??? of the album with its ... read more
aaand another catchy, well written indie rock album by a band that's the best at what they do.
I didn't know until logging in today how hyped up this album was, but i can see why. However, i don't recommend listening to it while tired or sleepy; as throughout its entirety, *everything is alive* threads on the fine line between putting the listener to sleep and allowing them to dream wide awake.
I hate whenever i listen to something, that i know is really good, but there's one thing that stops me from enjoying it. With this album it's the vocals. Not to say that they're bad, they just have that Red Hot/Oasis tone that i struggle to get past. This is the first time i had to use a calculator to give my rating.
