I first heard "deep" in May of 2024, and like most songs that grow on me enough to be one of my favorites, it didn't strike me much at first. After being just another one of my liked songs for almost two years, I rediscovered it in my playlist. However I was feeling at that moment, it made a huge impact on me. I really heard it for the first time, you could say. This song has everything; it is neither predictable nor boring. It's like an emotional rollercoaster, with calm ... read more
"the cure" finally feels like Olivia Rodrigo is on the right track after the bland radio tune that was "drop dead." This song starts with an interesting instrumental progession that slowly grows. I like hearing this darker folk rock sound from a pop artist. The lyrics feel a little basic overall, with not the best flow. I find the first line of the second chorus especially cringy, "Used to play a game in my head when I'd date a guy // Tally up the girls that he ... read more
Paramore's second album rocketed them into the mainstream from their somewhat niche debut All We Know Is Falling. Their production increased in quality, and Williams improved on her vocal talent, but I fear some of their creativity from the first album was lost. While the pop punk sound is coherent, the instrumentals evoke less intricate feeling compared to AWKIF. The feelings of sadness and nostalgia have transitioned into anger and rebelliousness. It feels like teens who have left home ... read more
This song didn't wow me. I hope GSIL is more like GUTS and has some slower songs on top of the dance pop. This sounds like it could be a chappell roan or sabrina carpenter song. Lyrics are kind of corny and cringe too. Use of instruments, especially drums at end of chorus, is out of place. One good part is the bridge. Overall, catchy but not my type of song, and sounds familiar in the wrong, unoriginal ways.
All We Know Is Falling is the start of something great with Paramore. Yes, they didn't end up chasing the genre much farther, but what we get here is still a glint, a foreshadowing, of brilliance. What really stands out here (besides Hayley Williams' voice, obviously) is the catchy but still heart-wretching instrumentals, especially the guitar intros. You can also really feel the longing in Williams' delivery. It's clear from listening to the album that she wasn't given ... read more
