LONG LIVE THE CALLOUS DAOBOYS

This may just be The Callous Daoboys magnum opus. Whilst maybe not reaching the chaotic heights of 'Celebrity Therapist', this album makes up for it with a beautiful amount of experimentation and it's ability to blend countless genres with ease. 'Country Song in Reverse' is definitely a SOTY contender.

arguably one of the best metalcore albums of the past 20 years. jack's vocals hold so much power and presence on every track, with some of the best screams in the business. every impact and breakdown hits so incredibly hard, both thanks to the stella production and writing that V.O.V have perfected over the years. criminally underrated and a future classic.

rlly putting the sleep in sleep token with this one. whilst there are some fun experimental moments and junt junt heavy sections, compared to 'take me back to eden' this album drops the ball massively. literally every song besides the opener, closer and caramel sounds borderline identical and requires genuine effort to get through. the production is also polished to the point where it sounds robotic and soulless. that ... read more

a strong first half, but never able to top sulfur and creature and just sorta fizzes out towards the end. Riffs are on point as usual, but the lyrics and variety could use a bit of work sadly as some songs sound bland and drag on way too long. Some of the best production in modern metalcore thou so that's something.

even Cane Hill's weakest album is still absolutely amazing. despite a couple of songs that lose their way a bit such as erased, the nu metal and at points experimental writing does wonders for songs like why? and hateful. the use of ambience and production also rlly lends itself to making this album stand out. special mention to the it follows riff for being absolute filth.

every day of the 3 years i spent waiting for this album was worth it. music has peaked I fear it will never be the same again.

this album is conflicting for me. The singles are all really strong, but on my first listen, not a single other song stood out to me or left any kind of lasting impression. Between multiple relistens and all the stuff that's happened with hawkins and draiman this album just leaves a rlly sour taste in my mouth

if only this whole album had been as good as the emptiness machine and two faced. There are moments where the whole thing comes together and the band are able to match the energy of hybrid theory and meteora, but the whole album is weighed down by some shoddy production choices and a painful amount of filler.

the high points are high (god complex, violent nature, in place of your halo) but compared to fracture and shrine this album feels a lot less focused and consistent.

never heard an album fall off so hard in the second half (apart from wake the dead).
