I feel like they're trying too hard to be unique, but some of the songs are actually good.
A classic jazz rap essential. While the vocalists lag behind the production quality on most songs, they hold their own when it matters. I approached this album like it was primarily a jazz album, which I think made it more enjoyable.
Soundtrack to trekking across an arid expanse of land. Realistic adventure music. A bit lackluster, but that might be the point.
A genre-blending masterpiece of hazy psychedelics. Didn't know this was a debut album, that's amazing.
A relatively normal album from Danny Brown although there are bursts of weirdness that foreshadow his later career. I have a feeling that the score for this album is low because AOTY users are pretentious and are disgruntled with the fact that their experimental king once made normal and palatable music that more people can appreciate.
Mac Miller mixed with a little Kanye and hints of J. Cole was the vibe I got from this project. Pretty solid and room for improvement, but consistently good throughout even if it was a little stale at some points.
Whimsical asf, one of the better abstract and jazz hiphop projects I have listened to recently.
You could call it "fun" but that would require enjoying it. No depth or substance, and surface level bars over intense beats. I guess you could say there is energy here, but that alone doesn't make the album good.
While not a complete failure of an album, it certainly leaves the listeners hoping for more, peaking with a few good songs and falling back into the trenches of mediocrity. Most of the album sounded the same and was extremely forgettable.
While certainly containing flaws and nowhere near perfect, Vacation in Hell is consistently interesting and unique.
Started strong then lost me. Good vibes throughout but mostly forgettable.
Good lyrical display but not much going on. Don’t think he took this project too seriously anyway, might come back to it sometime.
Really good boom bap album with Big L and 90s/2000s boom bap/backpack rap vibes throughout.
