Given I don’t know much of Janet’s past, this album is very dancy and solid. Album went by quick, and right after I wish I could hear it again for the first time. Both Janet and Michael were music prodigy’s and it shows.
In this album, Jill asks a good question: Who is Jill Scott?
Consequently, she answers this question in this album, and introduces who she is as a being, singer, and spirit. Jill puts this relaxing, groovy, and “I know what and who I am” type of aesthetic to this album. I found myself not even debating hitting that next track button just so I could see the transitions and vibe of the feeling. Not everyone’s favorite, and I’m sure it won’t ever be, but to those who ... read more
I walked into this album expecting a lot less, and that’s most to me not personally enjoying their new stuff AS MUCH. This is album left me fulfilled but I still kinda crave more from it. I ended up enjoying most of its full play; give or take about 9/12 songs. The album starts out incredible till about the middle, where it starts to sound a tad generic, but that’s all washed away near the end. Overall score id give it is a 70, didn’t impress me too much but did a good job at ... read more
This may not be for everyone, but those who get it get it.
I was in middle school when I heard this, and this album almost always takes up space in my head. This album not only holds sentimental value, but it just overall feels like a musical fever dream. That being said… I do tend to skip a few songs, but that’s typically only Sidelines and Are you bored yet. A great bunch of my favorite wallows songs, alone, come from this album. Nothing happens, do you remember, what you like, ... read more
I already had high hopes for this LP, which I thought I was an album. I guess I don’t know or understand the difference. Anyways, this album is a work of art — a masterpiece, more like. Given I’m new to the reggae sounds and influences, I love how he mixes it all together. I really can’t say much, but that’s not really a bad thing, in this case. Keep making good music Eddie, you never fail to impress to me.
This album is perfect in all ways possible, and reflecting YEARS later, this album holds itself up. I still revisit this album every once in a while, and this is one album I wish I could listen to for the first time again. I’d say some songs are, personally, not my taste, but holy shit Sza made them still likeable to me. Great job SZA.
it’s very rare i give an album 100, let alone 95, but this album was so far ahead of its time. Purple rain, Let’s go Crazy, Computer blue. Long live princes legacy
I was kinda hesitant to listen to it, because I was off out by the different languages, but this proved to me I doesn’t really matter. Great sounds, some washed out mall songs, but Heladito, Me ponga Loca, and Dame Beso are the highlights of this album. Kali makes a new person for herself out of all these bland artists
Beautiful (5/10) - solid track, lacking a little bit though
Nunchucks (9/10) - It’s not everyone’s favorite, but’s it mine, I’m not scared to admit that
So high (8/10) - the highlight of the album, a little less unique than nunchucks, but it’s still great
No police (6/10) Decent song, could sound better
Control (9/10) - Great song, probably one of the best.
Great sounding album, and its aesthetic really reinforces who Doja was as an artist.
