Taylor Swift despite how this album presents her is actually a good soungwriter and lyricist which is why this project and Midnights surprise me so much. She uses quirky lines to try and sound more modern but it sounds off and weird. Down bad is probably the best example of this, with the first lyric being "Did you really beam me up", which for a song which is trying to describe how she felt after the breakup with her long term boyfriend, just sounds odd. Fun, dynamic electro-pop that just tickles my ears.
Oh April Underscores, thank you for creating music
Some interesting moments and cool production, but for a disco dance-pop album it fails to capture the energy that is required in the genre. I also think that thematically he gestures to something but never quite reaches it. I think being referential has actually meant that he has lost touch to himself as a person which we got glimpses of in his first two projects, but that has dwindled with how formulaic his music and his career has ended up going.
MY MOST ANTICIPATED RECORD OF THE YEAR!!
Over the top vocals, maximalist production, touching lyrics, medieval vibes and 80's synth-pop vibes. Hemlocke Springs debut album is everything I wanted and more. Full of personality, heart and passion that has made me loop this album the whole day. Truly an interesting artist to come from the tiktok virality bubble of the early 2020's.
Wanted to check her out because she appeared on my tiktok fyp and it sounded interesting, however I'm left feeling a little underwhelmed, it's not a bad EP by any means, but other than having some nice neo-soul/rnb moments hasn't really left a lasting impression. However, it's sleekness and direction does make me want to look out for whatever else she might release!
