bully (n) - a person who habitually uses strength, influence, or threats to intimidate, hurt, or dominate those they perceive as weaker.
That’s what Ye said his son Saint behaved like after he kicked another child because they were “weak.” It’s what gave him the inspiration to call this album BULLY. But that’s also who Ye turned into post Donda.
Bullies project toughness, dominance, and control to hide insecurity and vulnerability, which is what makes the title ... read more
Strictly 4 The Scythe is definitely a fun release from new rap group headlined by Denzel Curry "The Scythe." Nothing mind blowing and it definitely does not reach KOTMSV2 for me but it's smooth, up-tempo, and has some character.
Now I'm not really all that impressed with the production and I honestly expected more from a Denzel Curry album. It's not that it's bad because it's definitely not, it just feels tame for a Denzel Curry album. I love the Memphis ... read more
Shawn Cee was right. This website is an absolute cesspool, full of losers, and the commentary on this album (while not from the majority but a LOUD minority) reminds me of why I stopped being a regular over here initially. A lot of people here do offer really great analysis and initial thoughts, which I appreciate, but some of the criticisms I've seen reek full of pretentiousness and virtue signaling. If you are going to share your criticism, why be a smart ass?
Now. I really like and ... read more
Is it crazy for me to say it still feels like there's some meat left on the bone? This is a good album, but outside of E85 and Tiramisu, there isn't a song that I'm in awe of.
The production is great, the mixing is spectacular. The producers and audio engineers clearly put in a ton of effort and it shows, but sometimes Don Toliver's performances or even some of the lyrics just don't mesh well. And even when they seem to have it all flowing, they somehow miss. Like, I ... read more
first impressions: This is so wacky i love it.
The production is TOP TIER man. Love all the different synths and the different drum kits they use man. The percussion bangs big time. Love how layered everything is and Rocky is really just floating across everything. His performance was fucking great across every track. So much energy and his flows are so crisp.
ROBBERY is interesting and seems to be jam packed with tiny details. Can't wait to dig into it more.
Worth the wait man. More ... read more
Here are the positives of 'VULTURES 2': the production throughout the album is decent at times with some songs actually sounding finished, ty dolla sounds amazing, and we get some good features. Other than that, this is just another self-sabotaged project from Kanye.
The writing on this album is HILARIOUSLY bad. Like is Kanye freestyling?? He just rambles and goes on random tangents that make no sense. Production wise, Kanye still has some juice left and there are several good beats ... read more
Would normally never check out music sent to my sb since I have so much other shit to listen to but the cover art of this project looked sick so what the hell fuck it. As Aler describes himself, this is a "storytelling based concept rap album that tells the story of the fentanyl and homeless crisis [here] in Seattle from the perspective of those afflicted" fused with luscious jazz instrumentals and ghostly samples.
The real centerpiece of this album is Aler's storytelling and ... read more
'Bando Stone and The New World' has two tales to its story, exploring soundscapes of hip-hop and neo-soul while also being Donald Glover's last album under the Childish Gambino persona. The two singles, Lithonia and In The Night, dropped before the album's release were both phenomenal and are on the first half of this album so I was disappointed when I felt underwhelmed through the first 10 tracks.
There's more hip hop centric tracks throughout the first half and they ... read more
Tiktok has recently discovered 'Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven,' which means there are endless tiktoks absolutely ripping "The Return of Chip Douglas" to shreds, which, you know, IS deserved. But it also is a statement to how Cudi is one of the most under appreciated artists of the 2010s. The amount of hate this guy gets is just so ridiculous to me even though he's made some of the biggest staples in psychedelic-trap.
'MOTM III' in my opinion, is the worst ... read more
Vansire has been one of my favorite bands to listen to since the pandemic hit, so there truly is a level of nostalgia that is buried within the sounds of this album. 'Angel Youth' is the second studio album produced by the duo of Josh Augustin and Sam Winemiller, and if I had to pick one word to describe this album, it would be dreamy. The sounds of the synths, the kicked back drums, and the mellow vocals all have this old-timey feeling that create a warm, pillowy atmosphere and bring ... read more
ALRIGHT ALREADY THE SHOW GOES ON ALL NIGHT TIL THE MORNING WE DREAM SO LONG ANYBODY EVER WONDER WHEN THEY WOULD SEE THE SUN UP JUST REMEMBER WHEN YOU COME UP THE SHOW GOES ON (yes i do like the show goes on sorry)
The whole idea of this album being from the POV of Amy Winehouse if she was a rapper is just so fucking awesome. For the people that are hating and think this is weird, there's a voicemail that Amy Winehouse left for Salaam Remi where she says she's been coming up with ... read more
The generational Lil Yachty run continues. As soon as this collab was announced, I knew there was no way it would flop. Lil Yachty was coming off one of the best releases of 2023 in 'Let's Start Here,' where he started to reshape his musical identity by shifting from trap to psychedelic rock. Meanwhile, James Blake has consistently made some of the highest-quality art pop albums throughout his discography. 'Bad Cameo' couldn't be a more perfect match for these two ... read more
School is finally over for me and summer (my favorite season) is here in full effect so I think it would be perfect to write about an album from one of my favorite summer vibed indie rock bands.
I’ve basically already professed what I love about VACATIONS in my review on ‘Vibes’ so I can’t really add too much to say since ‘Changes’ follows the same formula, just over a full LP. The same glistening guitars, deep bass, and preppy drums shine in this album ... read more
