If you'd have told me that release is a prank, I would genuinely believe you. Horrendous work from Metro, he's unfortunately been on the decline since HEROES & VILLAINS. This was a very hard listen with extremely repetitive and boring production and frankly awful vocals from almost every featured artist. Maybe this rating is a bit harsh, but I also have much higher expectations from Metro compared to most producers.
Utterly incredible, and the fact that it is fully improvised makes it even more impressive. I simply cannot wait for Maruja to drop a full album this year, I wouldn't be surprised if it will be my top album of the year. They are simply a step ahead of pretty much everyone in the post-rock genre right now.
The Dolly Parton 'Please Please Please' remix has to be the worst use of a feature that I've seen since... well since I listened to the new Drake album earlier today. There's some nice production, but this deluxe seems to be solely to get the overall album back in listener's rotations.
Near the end of listening to this I took a stroll through all the albums I've rated an 85 and thought to myself "Wow... am I really going to rate this above all of those? Above Nevermind? Above 36 Chambers? Rumours? Songs in the Key of Life?? Dark Side of the Moon?!"
And... I suppose so. I'm not sure I've ever heard anything quite like this. It tickles a little crevice of my brain that's been hidden away my whole life. I don't quite have the words to even ... read more
I've been dreading giving this a rating. It's just dull to me, it feels Kendrick has gotten too mixed up at trying to make his music conceptually interesting that he's completely missed the mark on a lot of the songs on here. There's still his usual lyrical quality and a couple really good songs, thus the rating, but i'm overall very disappointed.
I've been hoping the project would grow on me, as most Kendrick projects do, but it still hasn't ... read more
