One of the best pop punk/emo albums of all time. The guitar riffs are clever and hard-hitting. The lyrics in songs like Cancer and Mama are devastating, while songs like WTTBP and Famous Last Words contain uplifting messages. The concept is also original and well-thought of.
Track-by-Track Review:
1. The End - A great opener to the album. The guitars after the first verse scared the hell out of me the first time I heard it and THE TRANSITION TO DEAD!, OMG.
2. Dead! - The guitar solo in this ... read more
It's too loud and angry! MAKE IT LOUDER AND ANGRIER!
This song feels like the final few minutes of BCNR's Basketball Shoes and you know how much I love the grandiose ending that song has. Just like that song, listening to this new single from Parannoul felt so surreal and life-changing. The drums were so abrasive but fit the song so well and the vocals are as ethereal as ever. This is exactly what I had needed for the past few months. Thank you Parannoul!
You tried Oliver, you tried.
I've accepted the fact that this man will never release anything as good as 'Ugly Is Beautiful' but honestly, this didn't suck so bad. Some songs here are bordering on sounding like his debut album but the writing is mostly bland and forgettable. Fairweather Friends genuinely slaps tho.
I decided to revisit this album because I do remember liking some of the songs they put out for this record. Yeah, it has some of the cheesiest generic love song lyrics I have ever heard but the instrumental and energy this band brings almost balances it out. It's sad because this album contains some of my favorite pop punk songs of all time (Don't Stop, Heartbreak Girl, Social Casualty). Speaking of Social Casualty, it sounds like it could fit in FOB's Infinity On High. THEY SHOULD'VE PUT THAT ... read more
What can I say? I love myself some generic pop punk.
Neck Deep is a band that I had recently just discovered because Spotify kept recommending every single time I would listen to an album similar to their sound. I thought I would end up disliking their music because people were really calling it "generic pop punk." Honestly, even if it isn't pushing boundaries sonically, this record still had that charm the previous ones had. They were still on point on the levels of catchiness and ... read more
I appreciate the more laid-back sound the band's going for. The thing is, most of the songs in this album have nothing interesting to give to the listener. If only all the other songs in this album sounded like tracks 3-4, and maybe track 7. Speaking of track 3, 'Circling The Drain' is one of my favorite Microwave songs of all time. It's a shame they had to include it in this record. It's not that I dislike it when emo/punk bands release songs that are considered as 'slow burners,' but these ... read more
