Where Dave fully builds on the promise he's shown throughout his career, and presents the messed-up, dark, troubling reality that he lives in and that is permanently troubling him mentally in the most coherent way that he's been able to so far. All of the seeds planted in Psychodrama, which was in itself a ridiculously mature album for an artist of his age at the time, bear fruit here, and the levels of meaning that he is able to portray in every track is incredible. It's a tough ... read more
An album that is more 'interesting' than 'good', but there's definitely something in here for everyone. It is, however, quite a bit overlong and incredibly undisciplined.
Frustrating. An album that shows how good Uzi could be at points, but which is pretty tediously one-paced for most of it, and a lot of the variations from just standard trap fare (such as the sampling/reworking in P2 and That Way) just come across quite gimmicky. Really feels like an album by an artist who could do much better and more interesting work, but instead is just playing it safe.
Just a solidly great classic rock album. Pretty much all the songs kinda slap, but it does feel like it's lacking some of the edge, both sonically and lyrically, that really makes The Rolling Stones' hit singles so iconic.
Honestly not that bad, it's largely generic and overlong but then again as is most of Drake's stuff.
Lots of promising signs in there, but I think a lot of it is also quite basic and repetitive.
Absolutely amazing, grabs you from the first track and never lets up. Goes without saying that there's not a single skip or weak track.
Greatness at work. Cash's ability to go from heart-wrenching to charismatic in a moment, all whilst remaining utterly sincere, is simply unparalleled.
Probably can't justify giving it this high a score, but I just really like it. It's sort of a mess, but in a very fun, punk/pop-punky way.
As a Green Day fan this is definitely the most disappointed I've ever been by an album, it's not that it's complete rubbish but rather that it really doesn't sound like the band or anyone else involved really gave a shit about what they were making on this. Some of it is bad, but worse than that is the majority of its songs just being instantly forgettable.
I just love it, and it's such a shame to see so many reappraisals framing this as excessive and overblown when it's those two traits which make it such a great Green Day album to me.
Incredible. The maturity Dave displays on this album is ridiculous for his age, and whilst his ability to make hard-hitting tracks like Streatham and Black is what gets him most of the credit, his ability to mix that up with a chill 'song of the summer' like Location really shows a versatility that I think people often overlook.
