Really digging these super short grindcore records. This is the best one I've heard yet. Something about the clipping on both ends really contextualizes the 9 minute cacophony it contains. Girls Who Smoke is just killer.

I like it alot

This is insanely bad. The lyrics of Goddess sound like the Weird Al parody. Every song is formulaic to the point of nausea.
I just... wow. How does this exist?

The last few tracks are pretty catchy, and bad idea is an all-around good song. The rest is such a bore.

Some redeeming qualities, mostly bad

Some absolutely beautiful string compositions and even some cool electronic textures mixed in. I suppose the only thing that's missing is the ballet that accompanied it.

I like it a lot

Now this is how you make drone music! The lyrics in Drive get a bit meta (I mean this is Jenny Hval) but they stay pretty charming. Accept is absolutely insane and thrilling. My only complaint is that this isn't a longer project.

Good album

This album is just missing something. The sonic palette leaves much to be desired, as nothing sounds quite full enough. This doesn't seem like a choice though, it plays out more like a failure. There's some solid songs and great lyricism here though. Perth is a really cool song and it's at least pleasant when it's on.

Not bad

Panda Bear is on a mission to be my least favorite member of my favorite band. This album sounds incredibly childish. While a lot of AnCo's music is meant to invoke the feeling of childhood, this is normally contextualized by focusing on nostalgic feelings and innocence lost. This album just feels like I'm bobbing up in down on the water. I recognize that was the point of the album, but the majority is just so annoying. The melodies feel trite, the lyrics are ridiculously silly - but not in a ... read more

Yep, this sure sounds like a collection of 17(!) B-sides... Our Love is Senile is great, the cover at the end is really good, I just don't need to listen to so many mediocre tracks to get to the few good moments (the end of Georgie's Lament, for example).

Don’t worry Billie, you’re not really giving me a reason to.

It's interesting. I enjoy parts of it and it's pretty replayable, but nothing really stands out.

Yeah let's just remove the one good part of King's Dead...
He's a good rapper but it's pretty un-contextualized.

Dreamin is actually a really solid and in-your-face pop song, but the EP slowly devolves into extremely generic arena-pop.

Man. I feel bad rating trap music, because it is apparently just not for me. But I don't get it. The rapping is boring. The beats are repetitive and far from hypnotic. There's 20 songs on this?? 20 too many

Absolutely beautiful album. Motherfucker=Redeemer is an absolute masterpiece. The builds and drones in this album are completely engrossing. The biggest thing this album misses, however, is context. The sampling methods on Lift, something they dropped here, were incredibly effective at this. While I appreciate the straight-forwardness of this album at times, the lack of esotericism makes this feel a bit formulaic at times. But damn are these guys good at what they do.

Good album

So yeah. I've started my journey through Swans's discography, and this is the first one I started with. Poor choice? Possibly. The sounds are cool, the energy is dark. My biggest issue is how undynamic it is. It also somehow manages to feel empty even with so much abrasion. It's interesting to listen to for sure, I just don't think that translates to enjoyment.

Tracks 1 and 3 are catchy and engrossing. Tracks 2 and 4 are boring and trite. 53 feels about right for that.

This is a pretty fun collection of pop tracks that all flow together well. Comeback Kid is freaking killer.

The bus sample at the beginning confuses me every time. David Grubbs's half is some very interesting, minimalistic sound collaging. The Avey Tare half is riveting noise that builds wonderfully to the absolutely tragic Abyss Song. I've never heard a sadder sounding vocal performance.

GOOD ALBUM

Who is this for? If you're nostalgic about the Backstreet Boys, listen to their old stuff. If you're looking for pop music, listen to Bastille or something. The first song was fun. The rest of the album was not. They're good singers though.

A super cool album who's sound is incredibly consistent. Biggest complaint is that it's super top heavy, but man is that top killer.
