preacher's daughter is the auditory equivalent of an objectively fantastic film that you never want to watch again. it's brutal and unflinching in its depiction of abuse and religious trauma, enough so to make some listeners genuinely uncomfortable. but the fact that ethel cain is so willing to make an audience uncomfortable is to the album's benefit. it's not an easy listen, but i'm glad that it's not.

On Your City Gave Me Asthma, Wilbur Soot manages to capture a distinct sort of melancholy; a hatred and a homesickness for the same place. Scathing disdain for London, English politics, and the UK as a whole bleeds through the record, particularly on tracks like 'Jubilee Line' and 'I'm Sorry Boris' (the latter being written like a vitriolic apology to the Prime Minister for leaving London).
