Pure Perfection from top to bottom. It's amazing how fresh this feels compared to The Bends. I love The Bends with all my heart but this is just another level.
Definitely the best live versions so far, My Iron Lung uptempo is incredible. Just a bit sick of hearing so many live versions of The Bends not to mention for some reason they have loads of their weakest (Bones, Anyone Can Play, Stop Whispering) instead of Street Spirit or (Nice Dream). They released so much in this era, I'm looking forward to OK Computer.
The soundtrack is genuinely creepy and unsettling yet somehow peaceful. Perfect for this film as the sinister tone is underscoring the score, especially with the harsh cuttoffs at the end of tracks. That scene where they speed through their "love" life where there's just always something slightly off in the music despite it being deeply rooted in romantic music. One of the best horror soundtracks I've listened to.
Incredible live version of Fake Plastic Trees. The crazy bit in blow out is imo better than the album as there's more clarity yet keeps the same chaos and uncertainty. Definitely some of the best of this concert that I've listened to. Weird how they split up this concert into so many live ep's though
How Can You Be Sure? Really letting down the single. Wish India Rubber didn't have the laughing because it's an incredible song otherwise and of course Fake Plastic Trees is the real standout
Hexadecimal is probably the version of Planet Telex I listen to from now on. Killer Cars is also a banger (even though it's not on the track list for some reason)
The hexadecimal is groovy af and imo better than the original, it just settles into the vibe a lot more and adds these layers which create a much more immersive soundscape and a much more interesting structure.
L.F.O. JD on the other hand is so heavily percussified and removed from any sort of structure or harmony it feels like it went for an abstracted take on the original that just never really worked. There is something that could be done with percussive and electronic elements, after all ... read more
Pretty generic soundtrack. Fits the movie and that's all it's meant to do and should do but can't get a higher score as it doesn't go beyond with themes or melodies and has that marvel/hollywood style reminiscent of ant-man in a lot of action sequences
First studio appearance of Lucky!!! One of my favourites and the only real change I can hear is the intro is slightly longer
Great live performances, planet telex really works better live, I don't think the studio version is done that well
India Rubber - 100
Just (Live) - 100
Maquiladora - 65
How Can You Be Sure - 60
While it's a very unique experience and creates a very great atmosphere there's not too much to latch onto or make it stand out to make me want to listen to it again. It doesn't fill me with any emotions just a vague soundscape that is never fully realised or established to make me know what the soundscape is
I just love listening to jazz when I'm sad, it's just another ethereal experience.
Edit: Disappointed to learn of Pat's thoughts on AI which was probably used in the cover but as far as I could tell he doesn't use it in his music and if he did the rating would obviously go down.
Fav: Our Old Street
First appearance of Maquiladora on a release (from what I can work out) and it's a bit naff. The rest was nice performances but nothing that blew me away
I reviewed this then lost everything I said but there's some in here that are massively upgraded with energy or just have a great live performance, there's some that don't translate as well or feel early in their development (big boots/man-o-war). It's also not the greatest recording and the crowd ruined Bulletproof.
Nothing amazing or spectacular just nice music to listen to. The standout for me is Never Know
