Eclipse

There we go. Here’s your absurd fusion jazz infused tech death metal album for the year. This album is all over the plays yet it flows very well. Songwriting is progressive, and it never drags because there’s some unexpected idea that is always revealing itself somewhere from the crevasse of each track. Some of the time, things are super tight and in the pocket with odd time signature grooves, and then other times the songs go loosey goosey with some free form ideas in the form of lead wankery. The guitars, bass, drums, and keys all sound insane and all over the place with no punches pulled. The vocals are typically mid-ranged death growls, and the keyboardist does these really cool clean rock vocals on “Wake Up.” This is a blast.
