Pure magic here. Evocative, alive, unbound, wistful and soothing at the same time, a very beautiful musical place to stop by. It has the widest sonic palette out of all their albums, so it makes sense to me why they would make it their self-titled (plus, it blends a new direction with their established affinities very nicely).
Highlights: place of my own, the long night, imanocean, relict + part ii and mj odyssey, which are short but touching
there are albums where the first kind of praise that comes to my mind is towards the production, the inventiveness, the cohesion and such, and there are albums like this one where i could only focus on how every other line was a punch to the gut and how it had my full attention with every pained and defeated and angry word. there are tracks here like life of the spider or dog years that i just can't listen to again anytime soon because of how heart-wrenching they were. i'm grateful to ... read more
