It's incredible how I keep finding absolute gems like this deep diving into her discography.
Ichiko is my favorite artist period, so you can bet your ass I enjoyed the album. The singles are all fabulous, unfortunately the LP as a whole just feels too short and sparse to meet my lofty standards for a highly-awaited follow up to Windswept Adan.
Scratches an itch I never knew I had. Like a modern take on The Avalanches, condensed into the sweetest ear hooks.
Album of the year for sure. What an experience this is! Geordie Greep's creative control over this project manages to add an extra layer of eccentricity to Black Midi's already challenging body of work. I love the ever-broadening range of genres and influences that's manifested here, and it's all so well paced and sonically diverse that it doesn't leave me bored at any point. The expression of the album's central theme gets so deranged that it makes me ... read more
Giving it a couple of months after the hype, I must admit it's grown on me quite a lot. What this album really does best at is polishing the formula that Parannoul has used for songs from his previous albums before, catchy and nostalgic sounding choruses over a well put together mix of acoustic and electronic instrumentation and of course that noisy wall of fuzz. It doesn't beat After the Magic or To See the Next (...) in terms of giving me songs that stand out, but it's still a ... read more
Catchy and mature set of songs that can absolutely be enjoyed by anyone, but Billie has lost some of the edge that appealed me to her previous work.
I haven't liked a single song from this on Spotify and the reason is this album is best enjoyed as an exhilarating, bumpy, 31-minute ride with insane fucking vocal performances.
omg its so gorgeous, sounds like it could have been on Windswept Adan but also has very beautiful distinct melodies, why isn't it like 10x times longer!!!
Porter did well here for his debut, crafting a sonically consistent and anthemic album with some memorable moments and standout tracks. However it's hard not to compare this album to its successor, which is a bit of a masterpiece. Nurture makes a significant creative leap and to me is worlds apart 😉in terms of presentation and quality.
Plenty of songs here have catchy choruses and interesting ideas but I feel a decent amount of them quickly wear out their welcome. Nostalgia is probably a ... read more
These singles have me bopping so hard. This one is like if Scaled and Icy was actually interesting to listen to. Still nervous about the whole album but they've gone 2/2 so far.
Carti goes surprisingly well on the beat and Camila does a passable Charli XCX impression. Could've been way worse after hearing that snippet
The Smile's effective use of delicate harmonies and light instrumentation to build that intriguing and stark atmosphere continues to impress me. Thom's vocals are as great as ever, he is such a force at carrying a melody no matter the song. Unfortunately the vast majority of songs fail to stick with me afterwards, even if they make for pretty listening throughout. The major highlight was Bending Hectic which makes that noisy departure in the second half which sets itself apart from the rest of ... read more
It's grown on me a lot. I was disappointed by how sparse the album sounded on my first few listens, but once I accepted it for what it is, it's a really interesting experience. There's really only one song I like coming back to on its own ("Loading") but the groovy and moody atmosphere that the album gives off makes me hang around for the entire length.
I'm so glad this is where they decided to take their sound, a fantastic mix of hip-hop and abstract electronic and jazz. It's inspirational to see.
It's decent, Bad Bunny definitely had the best performance. Feels like Travis and The Weeknd did as well as they possibly could in this genre, and for that reason this song probably should've been in their own style.
this isn't even her greatest hits, just gorgeous
