Nina in all her majesty. This woman definitely possessed one of the most unique voices of all time in music and a remarkable musical talent, and this album demonstrates just how talented she was. Everything here fits together so well, it's so elegant and sophisticated that it's almost impossible not to notice that she's in her element. Furthermore, Sinnerman is one of the best songs of all time.
Janet could have simply followed up Control, an already groundbreaking work, and created danceable songs, but she decided to go further and gave rise to this even more impactful album. Maintaining the best elements of her previous project, she now delves into social and political issues such as intolerance, racism, and school shootings, and, amidst all this, presents excellent pop songs. One of the best albums of the 80s, without a doubt.
A masterpiece by Joni. Everything here is breathtakingly beautiful: the lyrics, the instruments, her voice, and the concept. The album as a whole is about journeys, and she uses this to refer to metaphorical journeys, such as self-discovery and even life itself, without sounding cliché, which is a very difficult task. Furthermore, it's remarkable how she changed her sound compared to previous works, without abandoning her folk roots, to build the atmosphere of this album. Simply ... read more
With this album, Shakira demonstrates shrewd songwriting, a unique voice, and above all, a strong artistic vision. She is not afraid to express herself and to put her roots into her music, fusing her intelligent lyrics with a pop-rock sound and image, even going so far as to sing in Arabic. ¿Dónde Están los Ladrones? expresses, above all, authenticity.
This is so beautiful. Minnie's voice is otherworldly, and certainly none of her contemporaries sang like that. The way she experiments and explores her voice is something I can hardly imagine anyone else doing, because her instrument is so well-trained and unique, which truly marks her authenticity. Add to that the sunny vibe of most of the songs on this album, and you have a heavenly atmosphere. A great work from a very interesting artist who, unfortunately, left us too soon.
This is so innovative. Björk's uniqueness is condensed here with electronic beats, organic sounds, orchestras, complex yet simple lyrics, and the result is surprising. The great highlight of this album is these constant oppositions, such as organic versus electronic, complexity versus simplicity, raw versus refined, making it a masterpiece. It is, at the very least, a creative outburst.
More than just a comeback, it's the (re)birth of one of the biggest stars of the 80's and of all time: Tina Turner, with her big hair, voluptuous body, high heels and a red lipstick, as seen on the cover art. Her voice, as usual, it's a powerhouse, and a dream of every rock star. The songs encompass diferent genres, like pop, rock, R&B and new wave, reflecting the move she was doing at the time, trying to reshape her career, and surprisingly it works very well, thanks to her ... read more
Butterfly is one of the best R&B projects of the 90s and Mariah's most elaborate. Innovative, free, and even poetic, here Mariah demonstrates more control over her sound, and the result is admirable. This album changed the R&B landscape and her career (for the better).
A foundation for music that would come after this: disco, new wave, pop, and other genres were heavily impacted by Summer's work. An enormous contribution for music and one of the most important albums of the disco era.
O álbum é lindo. Lindo de se ouvir, desde os corais, um elemento bastante proeminente aqui, até a voz do Milton. É difícil escutar as faixas e não pensar constantemente em como é tudo muito bonito, harmônico, sentimental e poético.
Grace Jones is so cool that it's hard to find another word to describe her; and this album is too. It still sounds fresh even today, definitely ahead of its time.
An impressive album. Far beyond New Age, the songs addresses profound themes like the passage of time, mortality and renewal, and the lyrics, in a brilliant way, relate this very well to natural elements, such as water, present in the album's title. Throughout the project, this can be perceived in songs like the tension of "Cursum Perficio," the melancholy of "On Your Shore," and the hope of "Storms in Africa" and "The Longships." Furthermore, ... read more
