18 Carat Affair - Spent Passions 2

Thanks @Krolljr for the recommendation.

I have heard a few tracks from this album while aimlessly exploring the vaporwave genre without diving into any albums so I am semi familiar with what I am diving into. So I am looking forward to what makes it so special to the guy that always is supplying me with some good vibes.

One minute it's an immersive dreamscape the next it's some unhinged retro tech glitchiness. It's certainly an auditory journey to be had. The TV static spam ... read more

A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory

It may not hit as hard as their last album, at least for me personally, I still enjoyed plenty of this classic and influential Jazz Rap LP.

Recs:
- Bugging Out
- Butter
- Show Business
- Vibes and Stuff
- Infamous Date Rape ( Yikes I know, but it's too much of a vibe to deny it)
- Check the Rhime
- Jazz (We Got)
- What?
- Scenario

I liked the part where they played Smells Like Teen Spirit six times over. The last two songs are great too!

Recs:
- Smells Like Teen Spirit
- In Bloom
- Come As You Are
- Breed
- Territorial Pissings
- Stay Away
- Something in the Way
- Endless, Nameless

my bloody valentine - loveless

🤷‍♀️ I don't know, it just did nothing for me other than the track "Sometimes" which was nice.

Slint - Spiderland
75

I may have been unimpressed by the first half, but damn if the quality post rock had me by the balls for the second half!

Recs:
- Washer
- For Dinner...
- Good Morning, Captain

Talk Talk - Laughing Stock

Well I never expected Ascension Day to be the mysterious track that I would always hear for a NPR advertisement for a podcast called roundabout that explores alternative music. That was quite the pleasant surprise to learn just what that song was and it being Talk Talk makes me super happy.

I thought that last album was amazing, but this Jazzy, Ambient, Post-Rock masterpiece managed to top it. It's honestly some of the most pleasant, satisfying, and engaging listens I have had the ... read more

The only parts of this album that didn't scream generic death metal was the first part of "Lack of Comprehension" and the dynamically interesting "Cosmic Sea"

Los Tres - Los Tres

An endlessly charming and impressionable folk rock piece from the Chilean band. Plenty of toe tapping and generally good times are to be had here! It also helps that the voice is great and the instrumental is thoroughly engaging. Good stuff, I'm sure you will appreciate this album if you like what I am saying.

Recs:
- El Haz Sensor
- Pájaros de Fuego
- En Jamaica
- Un Amor Violento
- Amores Incompletos
- He Barrido El Sol

Sepultura - Arise

I have forced myself to pay attention to lyrics and I have found it to be very rewarding with me reading a lot of fascinating poetry that I just want to ponder over for hours on end. If I were judging just by that, and gave been doing it for the entire time I have been reviewing albums then yeah a lot of it would probably be rated higher.

BUT I weigh how it sounds and it's appeal to my taste for repeat casual listens way heavier then interesting lyrics. It's just how I consume MUSIC. ... read more

Swans - White Light from the Mouth of Infinity

Mhmm melodramatic goths.

The lead singers do well to lighten the dark feel of the dramatic instrumentation as they poetically talk about all kinds of strange yet fascinating things.

Now that that I read other reviews I now realize that there was a bit of folk infusion into the soundscape making it a bit more accessible than drowning you into the murky darkness.

I liked a good amount of it. It ain't the best that I have heard from Swans this far, but it's a very solid release that ... read more

Ice Cube - Death Certificate

Wasn't feeling it at first but I came around pretty strong by the end. Damn that was a strong finish. I like Cube when he's pissed off he has some creative insults and he doesn't hold back.

Recs:
- Man's Best Friend
- Alive on Arrival
- I Wanna Kill Sam
- True to the Game
- Color Blind
- Doing Dumb Shit
- No Vaseline

Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream

A couple tracks were cool, too much of this album felt monotone and uninteresting.

Recs:
- Dismembered
- Skin Her Alive

The Garden - Ballet
60

Always happy to see whenever The Garden releases anything. They lay off the punk and throw a dope rave in this brief single. It's ok for what it is, and it's more of the Garden that I personally prefer but they can easily go harder than this. Regardless I am looking forward to anything and everything they have coming up in the pipeline together or individually.

The Weeknd - Dancing In The Flames
65

Could be a bit more Dynamic but this is still a decent single for the much anticipated up coming conclusion to Weeknd's second Trilogy that if the album sticks the landing could be just as acclaimed as his first long term. I'm more than excited to see what else it has in store whenever it does release.

Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
60

Annunciate my dude please. I can't understand anything past your gutteral demonic growling. I read the lyrics and they are DAMN poetic and thought provoking but in a casual listen it's just demon noises and brutal intense metal in the background. I just connect with it past what I am hearing. Sure, it's definitely an experience to read such things with THIS abusing your eardrums. I am not going to applaud them for it though. Sonically it's cool but gets old pretty quick and ... read more

Pearl Jam - Ten

From skateboarding Jesus to a meditative finale I was pleasantly surprised at just how great this Grunge Album really is. The voice is amazing, instrumentation just as pleasant to the ears. The vibe is immaculate and I will consider myself a new fan after this listen what a debut!

- Borboleta
- Eu Não Sou da Sua Rua
- Eu Sei (Na Mira)
- Tudo Pela Metade

De La Soul - De La Soul Is Dead

While not as consistently fantastic as their last release, there's still plenty of De La Magic to be towed by even after their apparent unfortunate passing RIP legends you were great to have around while we had ya.

-A Roller Skating Jam Named "Saturdays" ( feat. Q-TIP & Vinia Mojica)
- Bitties in the BK Lounge

Coroner - Mental Vortex

I appreciate the Beatles cover and I jived with a couple tracks that start things off. Otherwise I simply couldn't connect with what they were offering.

Recs:
- Divine Step ( Conspectu Mortis)
- Son of Lilith
- I Want You ( She's So Heavy)

Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese

Creative, inventive, interesting, and unique.

The more I listen to Primus the more I like their distinct sound and their appreciation for that bass. They are in prime form in this underappreciated classic album.

- Sgt. Baker
- American Life
- Eleven
- Is It Luck
- Tommy the Cat
- Sathington Waltz
- Fish On (Fisherman chronicles, Chapter ll)

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain

On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
