Blood Tower - Unimaginable Hauntings
70

It can't be Halloween without me reviewing my favorite Dungeon Synth artist.

Now when I first listened through their discog about a year ago I only found their latest work "Cryptic Nonsense" to be a stand out. ( Also their latest release from earlier this year "Our Earth Would Be a Nightmare" is also great! Highly recommend you check out these two albums out this Halloween!) But it's been a year and I would like to see some of their work with fresh ears and see ... read more

Infinity Frequencies - The first machine
85

Infinity Frequencies is back to the computers and short distinct tracks that hits an immersive niche vibe that somehow brings chills when it hits just right. My favorite!

But this time it's spooky, because of course it is, and is a great backdrop to a cloudy chilly Halloween morning when the spirits of the dead and mystical creatures of all shapes and sizes start to slowly rouse from their eternal rest for the festivities that are to come this evening...

I really enjoyed the vibe of ... read more

Wolf & Raven - Moon Soul
50

(huh. There's no cover art provided automatically for this one. Oh well not going through the trouble of inputting it myself.)

Anyways Happy Halloween! And a favorite artist of mine Wolf and Raven has released a brand new EP today as a terrifying gift for us all!

It has plenty of great riffs some good synths all reminiscent of their great album release earlier this year. Even so I didn't resonate as strongly this time around, hell I hardly resonated at all. It's still got ... read more

The Garden - Six Desperate Ballads
65

I have always enjoyed The Garden's outlandish sound. While there's a good amount of juicy weirdness with some of that heavy punk only a couple of tracks really connected with me continuing the recent pattern of me not connecting with this band as much with their more recent works. Still it's a solid effort from the brothers and the sound remains distinctly theirs with fresh twists.

Recs:
- The Nightmare
- The Hell Hole

Half Waif - form/a
75

Solid EP. Fascinating production and a sweet voice to guide us through it.

Recs:
- Severed Logic
- Frost Burn
- Night Heat

Pale Blue - The Past We Leave Behind
90

Damn does this shit just Flooooow!

Very easy to listen, enjoy, and just get lost in. By the nature of it I found a lot of the experience supremely enjoyable and replayable. There's a good amount of variety and shifting of pace to keep the engagement up as well. Overall this was a very well crafted experience with little to no glaring flaws that I noticed. A very strong experience that I will be sure to revisit plenty!

Dance With The Dead - Out of Body
65

Some decent synthwave with a few tracks I personally found notable enough.

Recs:
- Fracture
- Thrasher
- Out of Body
- Hell Ride
- Cobra
- Sunset

Mint Julep - Save Your Season
55

I was into it at first with the first two tracks but it rather quickly became background noise for me past the good first impression.

Recs:
- Chasing the Wind, Catching the Shadows
- Aviary

Swans - The Burning World
75

Another lovely release from the early days of the legendary Swans. Plenty of neo folk charm and gritty goth rock with the distinct voices of the male and female taking turns with the spotlight. It's nothing groundbreaking but is a solid example of why people gravitated to this sound of theirs.

Recs:
- Can't Find My Way Home
- Saved
- I Remember Who You Are
- Jane Mary, Crystal One Tear
- God Damn the Sun

Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion Technician
85

A wildly creative work with many genres and influences jammed within. It's a crazy ride start to finish with some crazy twists and turns. Not for the feint of heart but if you're brave enough to go for it then it's sure not to let you down.

Recs:
- Graveyard
- Weber
- Hay
- Human Cannonball
- U. S. S. A.

The Alan Parsons Project - Vulture Culture
70

Been a while since I listened to some Alan Parsons. With this 85 release he goes to the sometimes cheesy but sometimes good 80s pop rock route. It's executed well and with class and is a satisfying listen. A few tracks are especially effective but it's almost cheating to have a sax easily piercing my soul though. Regardless despite a lot of this album bring pretty forgettable there are a few gems that are worth your time and attention. At least they were worth mine.

Recs:

Real Life - Heartland

A decent debut synthpop release from the Australian band with a few notable tracks amongst pretty standard ones.

Television Personalities - ...and Don't the Kids Just Love It
55

Not overly fond of the vocals, but the instrumental is pretty good generally. I remember when I was going through the golden era of post punk I was very dismissive of it all and handed out 50s like candy. Now about a year later I have warmed up to the sound a little bit but it's still not my favorite thing in the world.

I know that I am giving this yet another 50 to add to the pile but this time rather than indifference, I genuinely just didn't connect with what they were offering. ... read more

And here we are. The latest album of Ghost Data.

I see that y'all and I are on entirely different frequencies on this album huh. Well I can be that one crazy and delusional fan that rates it highly cause this shit bangs. It definitely isn't Ghosts finest work, but it is definitely a fresh evolution from their recent work that has pleased my ears.

I may have not liked the opener, but once we are past that Ghost is providing a fresh style to their more aggressive and dramatic side. ... read more

GHOST DATA - The Wounded Healer
75

Another short EP with a couple tracks to remix this time around.

The title track is fucking amazing. Masterful pacing as usual and so many cool elements dancing around your ears. It's just a very well done track that mesmerizes all who hear it. Ghost is in prime form for this one! (90)

Despera is fascinating. A vibe with momentum. While not as striking as the opener, it keeps your attention plenty throughout the runtime. (75)

GHOST DATA - The Beach Episode
70

Two years ago today the goat skull Waifu and the demon queen Waifu took a break from their deeds. And what better place than the stereotypical beach episode to lighten things up?

Now actually this EP is one track that is then remixed several times by various artists so let's see what versions I like...

The original version is good but could be a bit more dynamic.(70)

Kindred's Remix is bouncy and is lot more structured for a club rave. But this is a beach episode not a rave ... read more

GHOST DATA - Symphony of the Shepherdess
85

Remember that I am incredibly biased towards EDM in general plus I have grown to be biased towards this artist as I have heard more of their work. So keep that in mind I say that I am continued to be impressed by Ghost's efforts here. While it's not as mind blowingly amazing as "Cruel Choreography" the consistency and ability to keep a fresh sound whilst keeping the bangers banging just has all of my flowers. The cinematic parts of the previous album are at a further focus ... read more

Not Marshall - God
70

Any one who exalts himself shall be humbled. And who humble themselves shall be exalted.

That was basically the message I listened to this morning at church. Basically it's a message of where you place your focus matters. Reminding us believers when in prayer to not praise ourselves for how dedicated we are to God, but to be thankful that they have guided us to become the transformed person we have become. It's a simple message and by the nature of it isn't going to gain many ... read more

GHOST DATA - Cruel Choreography

HOLY SHIT Ghost went BIG HARD and RELENTLESS on this Phenomenal return to form, hell this is better than ever! They do not hold back on this release. Listen to "Angelic Layer" and tell me this doesn't go so fucking hard! What a master of momentum that song is! "Deadly Flourish" is INSANE as well! "Voice of Eternity" simply striked me SPEECHLESS!!! To date my favorite song from this artist. It's ridiculous the jump in quality from the past couple of ... read more

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."

"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
