GHOST DATA - The Shepherdess: REBIRTH
55

We are back to the classic sound but for some reason I ain't feeling the soul anymore. The uninspiring vocaloid still being as present as it is doesn't help much either. This is the first release that I would call mediocre.

....The closer is pretty damn good though...

GHOST DATA - Crystal Cathedral
60

Ghost takes things in a different direction in this 2018 release. It's more mellow than ever and more vocal than ever. I remember not caring for this album when I first went through the discography and thought Ghost fell off.

While I disagree on the falling off part I still am pretty indifferent to this release. Doesn't leave much of an impression less so impact such as the previous releases that I have enjoyed as much as I have. So while I appreciate the change of pace, it's ... read more

Lady Gaga - Disease
50

Eh. I wasn't impressed with it. Seems like radio filler to me.

GHOST DATA - The Holographic Nighmare
80

Just went to this artist's Spotify page to get the link needed to put this EP on this site and WOW that's a lot of EPs that YouTube Music does not show... I'm sticking with the YouTube list for this Discog dive. There's plenty there and I'll listen to all of the EPs in due time whenever I feel like it.

Anyways Happy spooky season once again! This EP definitely fits this time of year with plenty of fun and scares to be had. It is A LOT more aggressive than the albums ... read more

GHOST DATA - Magical Metamorphosis
90

In this release Ghost gets a bit more aggressive and I'm honestly all here for it. The intentional pacing and lush atmosphere is here plenty as well thankfully. Hell there's more room for variety explored here! And don't forget about how it effortlessly evokes all kinds of emotions throughout the experience! While vocals remains a chunk in the armor the fact that it's only like one track out of several that has such a feature speaks highly of Ghost's improvement on ... read more

GHOST DATA - Simulated Sensations
95

With a stunning opener picking up where Ghost Data left off in the last album with the soothing dreamy atmosphere and pleasing vocals. I have always loved this part of their early work.

Honestly if you enjoyed the Occulus Occult then this album offers a lot of the same vibes with enough distinct variations and slight improvement in places. The pacing and production is excellent and is as emotive as needed. Ghost has practically perfected this particular vibe of a dreamy ethereal dance club. ... read more

Cloudchord & Oatmello - Birds
70

Some thoroughly enjoyable lofi to chill or study to.

Emil Rottmayer - Total
75

One of my favorite favorite Synthwave artists is Emil with their deeply engaging soundscapes and strong emotional reactions it consistently draws out of me. With this latest release of their drawing more from the ambience sphere of things they remain at home as they effortlessly draw the listener into their world. Then when the Synthwave elements do make their presence known all I can describe about it is just magical. Emil is very much a talent worth checking out with the dark yet grand ... read more

Hether - Covered In Hether
80

A hazy creative cover album full of dreamy atmosphere and classic charm with a modern edge. It's familiar, but distinct. Thoroughly enjoyable if you're into the vibe. Which I definitely am. It being a cover album aside, I found it to be well worth a listen. Be sure to check out the cool adventurous opener and see if you fuck with it. Everything offered is very well executed and knows what they are going for. All to say this is a vibe and I bet as the mentioned opener suggest may hit ... read more

Moonlit Tree - Black Cats And Dandelion Oceans
65

While it's not the most eventful thing to engage with. This ambient project you had for a couple years now knows how to set a mood and to linger just enough to have the mind wander, but not too far. I liked it well enough for an ambient album and am curious of how you stand in 2024.

Poison the Well - The Tropic Rot
60

Liked a few tracks otherwise it didn't do much for me.

Recs:
- Pamplemousse
- Are You Anywhere
- Without You and One Other I am Nothing

monkey experiment - monkey experiment

Not Waving & Romance - Eyes of Fate
50

Eh. It's some ok background ambience but nothing that's worth paying attention to.

GhostMinus - missing report
60

It has been a minute since I have listened to Ghostminus so let's see what they have to offer in their latest EP.

Tiramisu Cake:
A lovely shoegazey instrumental that keeps basic but effective. Not bad, liked the vibe, but it could easily be more to it. (60)

Unfiltered:
Good switch up to focus on the drums for a change in scenery. Then to have it nicely compliment the guitar as it returns is very appreciated. It's a cool dynamic with the guitar and drums but overall isn't all ... read more

Ringo Starr - Time On My Hands
70

My man Ringo is back, and he has gotten the country virus as well.

It's a nice change of direction that suits the active veteran quite well. It's a sweet tune that kinda relies on the charming guitar a little heavily, but I physically can't take away points on one of the sweetest old men I have ever encountered in music. Let's just say he does well when he is singing and it's a charming emotive listen throughout. I'm very excited for the upcoming full album this ... read more

MALNEEZY - One Rotten Network
60

Malneezy returns with a fascinating single full of strange happenings chaotically clashing with each other forming a unique atmosphere that at times is a vibe, others its an amalgamation of noises formated to a listenable structure. It's very dense with a lot going on and you will need multiple listens to catch everything that's offered. I think if this is any indication of where the album is going to look like them we are in for a ride and a half. It's certainly something that ... read more

Not Marshall - Remember The Light That Embraced Our Eternity
60

Woo! Another album from Marshall and he is a happy boy cause he says that this latest release of his is a varied and daring experience that is the reflection of his happiness. It's apparently pretty chaotic as well, so I guess I will have a bewildered look with the smile from listening to this chaotically positive music. Marshall has always offered an engaging audio experience that has my mind wondering so let's see where this latest release takes me...

Ice Nine Kills - The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood
75

Goes WAY harder is way more creative and dynamic while keeping the lighthearted fun with athemic infectious melodies, HARD riffs, screams and growls, fantastic usage of samples and most important of all it's so damn fun to listen to! Now this is what I wanted from the first album of this series of INK. Be sure to listen if you want a nice mix of spooky fun and heavy metal this Halloween!

On Black Sabbath - Paranoid
"@frogofprog of course, all the songs listed in the review are great including the all time classic in War Pigs. I just think as an album experience as a whole it could be a bit better."

"You are in for one hell of a ride if you're going to listen to it all the way through at once! Well worth the six hours of investment."
On Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
"@ScottShelby As for what's next for Zappa since I have listened to most of his Acclaimed stuff besides a couple of TMOI releases In likely to finish off that bands offerings before down the road see what Zappa has to offer in his more contentious releases."
On Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
"@ScottShelby That was intentional, got to save some big hitters for the future you to appreciate."

"@AidenBowe45 she reminds me strongly of Nico so if you are a nico fan, you'll like this."
On Bedhead - Transaction de Novo
"@musicfanboy You looked into that more than I ever cared to so I guess? I don't know. I do generally find slowcore rather boring to slog through, so your probably right."
On Terry Reid - Terry Reid
"@AidenBowe45 He reminds of Paul McCartney at points with how passionately he sings and the instrumental goes crazy. It's a fun album for sure!"
On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."
On Herbie Hancock - Fat Albert Rotunda
"@AidenBowe45 Groovy, funky and takes you on a ride. I don't remember if it goes wildly off the track but I wouldn't be surprised if it did with an artist like Hancock at the wheel."
On Harry Partch - The World of Harry Partch
"@AidenBowe45 yeah basically. I'm not here to hear your lips flapping."
On Amon Düül II - Phallus Dei
"@AidenBowe45 I'm excited for whenever you do decide to listen to it, they put you on a wild ride that's the best of both worlds and reminds me why I regard Krautrock as one of my all time favorite genres to lose my mind to!"
On Eyeliner - Buy Now
"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."
On Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel
"@RSmithFan What I meant was that this was the first album that felt like it was made in the eighties. Don't know why I phrased it that way either."
On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE
"@engar where? what? I don't see anything eyebrow raising."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
