God DAMN. If you like like a tortured indie folk boy with a fucked up voice than this will satisfy you forever. Lyrically genius with multiple awe inspiring feats of wordplay and storytelling. maybe this is my personal preference but this year containing this album and Illinois by sufjan stevens just fits perfectly to me. the stylised orchestrated perfection of Sufjan and the raw despondent and appropriately bedroom lyrical drowning of Conor. Love it.
Full of pithy lyrics that shake me out of the stupor the instrumental puts me under. I hope to never hear this album again, yet I have listened it front to back twice.
The struggler is one of the first modern Australian albums that make me proud to be Australian. Infectious delivery, ambitious concept and genre bending production makes this an enjoyable listen the whole way through.
All the bravado of former records fully realised into this epic album of whimsical production choices backed by heavy 808s and insane rap performances and storytelling, this feels like Tyler’s final form. Even in his singing which has often been his greatest weakness was strong when applied.
Top tracks: sir Baudelaire, lemon head, lumberjack, juggernaut.
Favourite track: Corso
Perfect vocals and production, shame that the lyrics stop the album from being perfect.
Top tracks: bad guy, xanny, listen before I go, I love you.
Favourite tracks: ilomilo
