It is difficult for me to write about this album because it completely consumes me every time I put it on, leaving me speechless and dazed (I am shivering, right now, after my ~30th listen); because I cannot find the words to even begin to describe the moods and emotions it brings out in me; because I cannot do it justice.

There is something excitingly visceral about the imitation work the noise synthesis is doing on this one, courtesy of Void Puppet. It imitates power tools, sirens, voices, all in an interplay. And Maxwell provides a nice busy percussive soup for the noise work to germinate in.

Certainly, when I first heard White Ceiling many years ago it was a sort of revelation. Never have I heard something so grand in music before it. And so, curious after a couple listens, I looked up the lyrics. They almost ruined the song for me, but I stopped reading a few sentences in. I liked Kozu Island and Metal a lot. Otherwise, Impulse is very disappointing. Most of these songs are very generic Yosi Horikawa beats where acoustic samples play very rudimentary roles. I see no improvement over Yosi's previous releases.
I listened to the entire thing thinking it was a solo project by some progressive jazz loving DAW compositor. Even after finding out this artist is a band - the drums, piano, and honestly all other instruments still sound programmed.
