Coming back from the steaming pile of dogshit that was Hurley, it seems like Rivers Cuomo finally got a little bit of sense put in him as he seems to want to apologize to his fans for that drunken confession he made last night. This album shows that Rivers Cuomo and co. certainly are capable of a blunder every once in a while. This record has some of the most boisterous production I have ever heard, especially on closer "Time Flies," which I guess is supposed to sound like it's coming from a busted up cassette tape. Weezer don't try to stick to any one particular sound with this record, and it's one of the many reasons why I think this is a marvelous album. Opener "Troublemaker" already sets the record off strong with goofy, non-serious lyrics about just being yourself. Weezer go for a new, more new wave-influenced sound with this one, and I dig it. The synth leads in tracks such as "This Is Such a Pity" bring a new mood and vibe to the songs that wouldn't have been there without them.
